Following Yuuki’s withdrawal from the tournament, Sei runs through school to the Model Building Club and finds Gonda there, who explains that Yuuki has left school indefinitely. Sei later tells Reiji that he couldn’t find out why Yuuki left, and Reiji dismisses him as a loser. Sei says that Yuuki isn’t like that, but Reiji yells that he’s a coward and says he doesn’t want to hear his name again. During the semifinals, Sazaki uses his upgraded Gyan Gya Gyan against Reiji’s Full Package, which takes some damage from its shield missiles. Reiji declares that Sazaki isn’t a worthy opponent and slices the Gyan Gya Gyan apart. Reiji apologizes for letting his guard down and quickly leaves. Ral tells China that Reiji is acting off, and China wonders if he’s bothered by Yuuki leaving. Ral says that Reiji has to get over it because someone who lacks a reason to fight can’t win. At a PPSE facility, Yuuki uses his Zaku Amazing in a mock battle against GM cutouts in a Jaburo themed level. Allan congratulates Yuuki on winning in 30 seconds with a 98 percent accuracy rate, which is the top score among cadets. He says that Yuuki will definitely be chosen at tomorrow’s ceremony as the third generation successor to the name. Yuuki then leaves and promises to be back for the ceremony. Sei works on a new Gunpla and wonders how they would’ve done against Yuuki in battle. Reiji thinks about Yuuki and wonders what he’s doing after having come to this world. China visits Iori Models to use the compressor and paint a Gunpla she’s working on. She asks about Reiji, and Sei mentions that he hasn’t seen him in a week. Sei mentions how Reiji came to the tournament late early on, but he found out from Ral that he’d spent time training in countless battles all so that he could eventually fight Yuuki. He sees how Yuuki’s absence has sapped away Reiji’s motivation for Gunpla Battle. Sei then becomes annoyed when Rinko eavesdrops on them. Reiji walks through the streets and watches a Gunpla battle between a GN-X and Asshimar. He runs into Ral and comments that Gunpla Battle looks silly and he doesn’t get it. Ral mentions that building and fighting with Gunpla is a hobby, unlike a life-or-death fight in the Gundam anime. Because they’re not fighting for their lives, they can go all out. Reiji is shocked when Yuuki suddenly appears.
Reiji runs back to Iori Models and asks to borrow the Full Package, even if it means risking damage to it. Sei reminds Reiji that the Full Package is built specifically for him, and they head to the school gym where Yuuki is waiting. China asks him why he left school, but Reiji interrupts and says the reasons don’t matter now. The battle begins in a space level, and Reiji immediately attacks with the new rifle, which Yuuki dodges. Yuuki unleashes a volley of missiles and slices apart the Full Package’s shield while crushing its rifle. Sei comments that he can sense their feelings. Reiji says he thought Yuuki had chickened out, but Yuuki answers that he has reasons he can’t share. The two continue to fire at each other and cause damage. Sei tells Reiji that he’ll fix the Gunpla no matter how many times it’s damaged. Fellini tells Ral that watching the battle has got him fired up. Yuuki and Reiji fight at close range, and Allan realizes why Yuuki is obsessed with Sei and Reiji. Yuuki cuts into the Full Package’s torso and destroys its head, while Reiji blasts the Zaku Amazing’s head. An explosion leaves only the Build Booster and Amazing Booster intact, with the two pieces rushing toward each other. After the battle, Allan buys Yuuki a soda at the train station and tells him he’s amazing. Yuuki says he’s aiming for a goal beyond his current victory. Reiji happily declares that they totally lost, and Sei vows that they’ll win next time. Sei says that after seeing Yuuki and Mao he’s been filled with new ideas, and Reiji apologizes for wrecking the Full Package before the finals. Sei responds that he hasn’t been idle and unveils a new Gunpla, the Build Gundam Mk-II. He starts babbling about its history from Zeta Gundam, which Reiji doesn’t understand. Later, Sei and Reiji attend their final match for the regional qualifier against a veteran battler named Kato. Battler Aila Jyrkiäinen watches the match while riding in a car and predicts that the Mk-II will win.
The sudden departure by Yuuki hangs over most of this episode, with Reiji getting a bit sloppy and showing rage over being denied the battle that he desired. The rematch against Sazaki ends predictably, as a new shield and paint job aren’t enough to defeat Reiji. Yuuki feels the tug of battle and is drawn back to Tokyo for a decisive fight. The two go all-out and wreck their Gunpla in a well-animated battle that reminds me of the fight from Gundam 0083 where Kou and Gato wrecked their Gundams. It’s a good thing they didn’t fight Yuuki in the tournament, because it would’ve stopped their progress right there. This episode marks the first Gunpla Battle appearance of a suit from Gundam 00, featuring a battler who looks exactly like Patrick Colasour. We also see Sei and China growing closer through Gunpla, which Rinko is very happy to push along. Although the Full Package is trashed, luckily Sei has a backup in the form of the Build Gundam Mk-II. There’s only one step left before reaching the world stage now.
