Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans is a TV series that aired across two seasons in Japan from 2015-2017. This alternate universe series was directed by Tatsuyuki Nagai with mechanical designs by Ippei Gyoubu, Naohiro Washio and Kanetake Ebikawa, character designs by Yu Ito and Michinori Chiba and a score by Masaru Yokoyama. The series is set in PD (Post Disaster) 323, centuries after a hugely destructive conflict known as the Calamity War. Humans have colonized Mars, and protagonist Mikazuki Augus is a disposable child soldier toiling for a Martian security company. Mikazuki and his comrades rise up as the new group Tekkadan and take on the world order fiercely guarded by Gjallarhorn. The series aired in 2016 on Adult Swim’s Toonami block, marking the first North American broadcast of a Gundam series since 2008. The series streamed internationally and is available on home video from Crunchyroll. A nine-episode Special Edition compilation of the TV series aired in Japan in 2022.
