Gundam SEED Phase 32: In the Promised Land

0
Summary

The Archangel arrives at JOSH-A and is escorted inside by a naval fleet. An officer named William Sutherland meets with several other officers in a darkened room. They discuss the arrival of the Archangel, and they all agree they are glad that the Strike Gundam and Kira didn’t survive. They have big plans for the GAT series of Gundams, and they don’t think it’s right to let a Coordinator control one because it only further proves that Coordinators are superior. They examine the specs for the new Calamity Gundam, Forbidden Gundam and Raider Gundam. The men ask Sutherland what he will tell Azrael, and he says he will handle it and that everything they do is for a blue and pure world. On the Archangel, Murrue receives a message from Sutherland that they are to remain on standby due to the threat of attack at Panama. At Carpentaria, ZuOOTs, GOOhNs and ZnOs are unloaded from transport planes to prepare for Operation Spit Break. In the hangar, Yzak watches as maintenance crews repair the Duel Gundam. In his room, Athrun thinks about Nicol’s death and his final battle with Kira. He also thinks about his encounter with Cagalli until Rau comes to visit him. Athrun apologizes for disgracing Rau, but Rau tells him he’s done well by destroying the Strike Gundam. He says that because of that, Athrun is very famous in the PLANTs now. In a PLANT, Nicol’s mother sits at his piano and cries while looking at a picture of him. Rau tells Athrun that he’s being given a medal for his achievements, and he’s also been transferred to the special forces of the National Defense Committee. Athrun can’t believe it, and Rau also tells him that he will pilot the new Justice Gundam and must head to space immediately to get it. He also mentions that Patrick is now the head of the PLANT Supreme Council and wants to end the war as quickly as possible. Kira wakes up and asks Lacus where he is. He wonders how he can be alive, and Malchio says it’s because he possesses a SEED. Kira says he should have fought Athrun and died because they’re enemies. Lacus tells him that as long as there’s a war, they’ll be enemies.

At Carpentaria, Rau leaves on a Vosgulov sub. In a PLANT, the Supreme Council debates a peace offer from the Alliance. Siegel believes it’s best to avoid useless deaths where possible, but Ezalia Joule objects because the Alliance acts like they’re winning the war. Siegel asks if they’re supposed to just keep fighting on and on, and Patrick asks him to not make such outbursts. On the submarine, Rau briefs his soldiers on the plan to attack Alaska Base. He tells them that the base can withstand nuclear assault and that they have to be careful and not underestimate the Alliance. On the Archangel, Murrue requests to speak with Sutherland, but she’s told he’s in a meeting and can’t be disturbed. In the mess hall, Sai tries to get Miriallia to eat, but she won’t. Two mechanics walk in and complain about how they have nothing to do. They wonder what they’ll do with only one Sky Grasper and decide they should probably fix the Buster Gundam since they have nothing else to do. Miriallia begins to cry when the Sky Grasper is mentioned, and Sai takes her away. Flay comes to speak to Sai, and she swats Birdy away when it flies towards her. Sai tells her he’s busy and takes Miriallia to one of the medical rooms. He tells her to rest inside while he gets some medicine. She sits down and is shocked when she sees that Dearka is in one of the beds. Sai tells Flay that everyone is depressed about Kira and Tolle’s deaths and that he can’t comfort her now. Flay tells him that she never had any feelings for Kira, and he yells at her and says that’s a lie. Miriallia begins to cry, so Dearka begins insulting her. She sees a knife on a nearby tray and tries to stab her. He dodges but is unable to fight back since his hands are bound. She cuts him and knocks him out of the bed. Sai and Flay come in and find Miriallia on top of Dearka. Sai pulls her away while she yells and asks why Dearka is alive while Tolle is dead. Flay sees a gun nearby and grabs it. She aims it at Dearka and says that all Coordinators must be wiped out. Miriallia jumps in front of her and knocks her away, causing the gun to fire and hit the ceiling. On the bridge, Murrue is informed that she, Natarle and Mu will report to an inquisition regarding everything that’s happened so far.

Commentary

Ok, so this time we see that the Archangel finally reaches the Alaska Base. However, all doesn’t seem right here. Sutherland and his men are most definitely members of Blue Cosmos with their anti-Coordinator talk. They don’t even care that the Strike Gundam was destroyed, as long as Kira is gone too. Also, there’s some strange weapon called the Cyclops System under the surface. From Rau’s briefing, we see that Alaska is the true target of Spit Break and not Panama. This must be the “real Spit Break” that Patrick was referring to a while back. Athrun thinks that he’s a failure, but instead he gets a promotion, a medal and a new Gundam. Kira’s alive and well, but who is this mysterious Malchio? He says that Kira possesses a SEED, so does that refer to Kira’s SEED mode? Finally, Miriallia goes berserk and tries to kill Dearka. Flay does too, but Miriallia strangely stops her. Flay’s hatred shows through here, and she most definitely should be a member of Blue Cosmos with her way of thinking. Also, why exactly are guns, knives and prisoners left unsupervised in medical rooms? That makes no sense at all.
