Gundam ZZ Ep. 30: Blue Corps (Part 1)

0
Summary

Roux covers the Neo Core Fighter and heads for a city. Glemy wanders through the desert and thinks to himself that Haman isn’t fit to lead the Neo Zeon. A Zaku Tanker belonging to the African Liberation Front’s Blue Team pulls in behind Glemy. He is glad to see them and passes out from exhaustion. Roux tries to enter the city of Ghardaia, but the guards won’t let her in because they know the African Liberation Front is trying to infiltrate the city. Roux spots a man named Juneh and pretends to be his girlfriend so that she can get in the city. Juneh plays along and vouches for Roux. He tells her that he wants to use her as art, and she wonders if he means that he wants her to get naked. He tells her that locals belittle Europeans and call them “Franks,” so he wants to take her somewhere. As the Argama travels through the desert, Beecha and Elle use cleaning oil to get the sand out of the ZZ Gundam‘s parts. They complain about having to do more work in Roux’s absence, and Ple makes a mess with the cleaning oil when she mistakes it for bath water. Juneh takes Roux into a small room with an escalator that goes down to a modern underground city used by Franks. Judau thinks the ship should stop at Ghardaia for resupply, but Bright wants to push on because they are behind schedule. Ple says they have to go to Ghardaia because of Roux, so Judau and Ple go out in the Zeta Gundam, followed by Elle and Iino in the Gundam Mk-II and a Dodai Custom. Glemy infiltrates Ghardaia and remembers what Blue Team leader Dido Kaltoha told him. If Glemy can find the control center for the Blue Team, Dido promises to help Neo Zeon. Glemy spots Roux being hit on by Juneh in a bar, and he grabs Juneh. They fight briefly, and Glemy grabs Roux and runs off.

Dido argues with his pilot Elo Meloe about Glemy. Elo thinks that Glemy is taking too long and might be a Frank spy, but Dido thinks he needs more time since he just got into the city. Elsewhere, the Zeta Gundam and Gundam Mk-II fly towards Ghardaia. A Desert Zaku and an EWAC Zack appear on a Base Jabber and attack them. The Gundam Mk-II is hit, and the Desert Zaku jumps onto the Zeta Gundam and forces it to crash into the ground. Judau transforms quickly and tries to hold off the Desert Zaku’s heat hawk. On the surface of Ghardaia, Glemy tells Roux that he isn’t an ordinary man and has the will to lead Neo Zeon. He starts watching the nearby battle, and Roux tells him he is a liar if he is trying to impress her while distracted by a battle. Elle and Iino continue fighting the EWAC Zack, and Judau loses his beam rifle while fighting with Elo. He’s about to fire missiles at the Desert Zaku, but Ple senses Dido’s Gelgoog. Judau fires missiles at both of them and hides behind a rock. He wants to get the beam rifle back, but Dido is standing next to it. Juneh tries to convince Roux to come underground where it’s safe, and she says she doesn’t like cowards. He says she shouldn’t be lonely, and she slaps him and drives off. Judau retrieves his beam rifle, and Elle and Iino destroy the EWAC Zack. They then disable the Desert Zaku and join Judau in disabling Dido’s Gelgoog. Glemy attacks with the Zaku Tanker, and the Gundam Team escapes. Ple tells Judau they have to go back to Ghardaia because Roux is there. As Dido dies in Glemy’s arms, he tells him that he is a brave man and worthy of Neo Zeon. He asks Glemy to fight on for the honor of the Blue Team and then dies.

Commentary

Another two part episode begins as the crew of the Argama continue their trek through Africa. It has been interesting over the last 7 episodes to see Africa because it is one of the least visited places in all of Gundam. I really don’t see Roux’s reasons for continuing to be AWOL. She may have disagreed with Judau because of Leina’s death, but he seems to be over that now. She really has no reason to still be gone. Glemy meets up with the African Liberation Front, which seems to want to take control back from Europeans. Racial tension is something that’s also not seen too often in Gundam. It’s amazing that Glemy can still be attracted to Roux, even though she’s an AEUG pilot and has made it quite clear on several occasions that she has no interest in him.
