Gundam ZZ Ep. 39: The Second Coming of Sarasa

0
Summary

The Nahel Argama and La Vie en Rose head for Side 3, so Mashymre decides to give up pursuit. He believes he can destroy the ship at any time now, and Illia thinks he is too optimistic. Beecha is glad that they finally got away from Mashymre, but Torres tells him that they were allowed to leave. Beecha says he will destroy Haman and Side 3, and Iino says he can’t do that because there are many civilians. He says if they kill innocent civilians they’ll be the same as Haman in Dublin. Sensors pick up a disturbance, and the visuals show several old Zaku IIs on Base Jabbers attacking a civilian Cargo Ship. Elle goes out in the Gundam Mk-II, followed by Roux in the Zeta Gundam. The Zakus destroy containers mounted on the side of the ship to make it appear as if they are really damaging it, but they aren’t. Elle and Roux separate when they approach the enemy and the battle begins. After briefly trading fire, the Zakus turn away and appear to retreat. They then come back around for another attack and escape. Astonaige boards the ship, which contains several civilians and a disguised Haman. One man tells Astonaige they are trying to escape from Side 3, and Astonaige promises to drop them off so they don’t get caught up in the conflict. After the ship is cleared, several soldiers emerge from the cargo containers. As soon as the civilians are processed, the Nahel Argama picks up another attack. Judau decides to go out himself this time with the ZZ Gundam. The Zaku pilots take shots at the civilian Space Cargo Ship, which is even older than their Zakus. Judau rushes in and destroys three Zakus with his hyper beam saber. The old civilian ship is brought next to the Nahel Argama, and the passengers turn out to be the people of Moon Moon, including Rasara and Sarasa. Rasara tells Mondo that they have left their colony because Sarasa senses trouble on the Nahel Argama.

Elle and Roux both call Beecha for help with the laundry and cooking. Astonaige asks for volunteers, and a young woman who is with Haman sneaks off on her own to an empty room. She takes out lipstick equipped with a flare and dumps it into the trash, which is ejected into space. On the bridge, everyone discusses getting allies from the areas of Side 3 that oppose Haman. Torres says there may be spies amongst the civilians, and Mondo says he checked it out. They decide to check the civilians again to make sure there aren’t any spies. Judau pats Haman on the back for her i.d. card, and she tells him he is rude. He touches her and has a strange reaction to here. The lipstick sets off a signal flare, and two Ga-Zowmns emerge from a hidden part of the civilian ship. One of them positions himself in front of the bridge and threatens to destroy it. The Ga-Zowmn pilots say that they will be occupying the ship. Mondo thinks it is his fault and runs off. Judau tries to stop him, but Mondo goes out in the Hyaku-Shiki. Judau tells him that acting rashly will get everyone killed, and Mondo says he will kill the enemy before that happens. He stands on the catapult, and one of the Ga-Zowmns shoots at the civilian ship. Mondo has forgotten about the other Ga-Zowmn, which swoops in behind him and grabs him. The other kicks him and knocks him down onto the deck. Judau comes out with ZZ Gundam, and the pilots demand that he hand over the Gundam and the ship. Mondo tries to move and detaches the Hyaku-Shiki’s wing binders, which sends one of the Ga-Zowmns zooming away. Mondo then attacks the remaining Ga-Zowmn with a beam saber while Judau destroys the other one. Afterwards, Sarasa approaches Haman and tells her that she can sense the evil within her. Judau and the others decide they need more allies and set course for Side 3’s Colony 24.

Commentary

When this series was at its worst, the lowest point was those dreaded Moon Moon episodes. That said, I’m not too thrilled about seeing the Moon sisters return. What possible reason would Tomino have for bringing them back? I really had hoped that they would have just been forgotten and never revisited. Nevertheless, here they are. We also see an incognito Haman aboard the Nahel Argama here, but the question is why. It most certainly has to do with Judau and her feelings for him. Now they’re going off in search of allies to fight Haman, but they have no clue that she is literally under their noses. Bright wouldn’t let that happen on his ships.
