This machine was only mentioned in Diary of Edmund Edgar Smith, a book published by famous poet Cecilia Madein. According to the book, the Half Gundam was built by the same team that developed the RX-178 Gundam Mk-II to serve as the Mk-II’s partner in test duels. The team’s original intent was to recreate the famous RX-78-2 Gundam from the One Year War. To that purpose, they gathered all remaining spare parts for the RX-78-2 and used them. These parts made up about 52 percent of the Half Gundam and the outer armor was also made to resemble the original, although it lacked the Core Block System. The Half Gundam never saw actual combat, as it was destroyed by the Mk-II in a practice duel using real ammunition shortly before the beginning of the Gryps War in UC 0087. Many people claimed that the Diary of Edmund Edgar Smith was a work of fiction and, as such, that the Half Gundam never existed, usually citing the fact that such a machine was never mentioned in any recovered Titans records.
