Ideon Ep. 10: Surprise Attack – The Bajin Plan

0
Summary

The Solo Ship approaches the planet Crystal Star, where they hope to conduct some repairs. The planet appears to be filled with large amounts of plant life made of silicone, which cause them to take a crystal-like appearance. A group of bird like creatures fly by the ship. Karala says the creatures are called Bajins. She says Abadede researched this planet two years ago. Bes wonders if they’ve been brought into a trap. Meanwhile in space the Buff Clan approaches on the Gataman Zan. Abadede thanks Gije for planting a tracking device on the Solo Ship, but says that he’ll be going after the enemy himself this time. The ship is contacted by Karala’s sister Harulu, who is upset with them for sacrificing the Gram Zan. Harulu says they’ve been fighting to softly and that Karala can be sacrificed. Abadede doesn’t want to wait for Harulu to arrive and says he’ll go down in the Dogg Mack. He says an earlier search team of the Buff Clan was destroyed by the Bajin. Cosmo and the others work on repairs on the Ideon, but the Ideon sign fails to appear. Lin and Lotta bathe the children. Joliver and Sheryl work on translating the language of the Sixth Civilization in order to assist in the repairs. Karala arrives and gives Sheryl a translation device to help. Sheryl is skeptical of Karala, but Joliver convinces her to take it. Karala says she’s used to their language now and won’t need the translator anymore. Meanwhile on the Gataman Zan Abadede watches a message from his son and wife while preparing for battle. The Dogg Mack departs the ship and heads down to Crystal Star. A group of flying creatures that appear like umbrellas fly by the Solo Ship, causing alarms to go off. One of the crew members finds the transmission device from the Buff Clan and tosses it away, but it reattaches itself to another part of the ship. At that moment, Abadede is using the device to track down the Solo Ship. He plans on launching a surprise attack on them.

Abadede follows a group of Bajins to a large nest. He blasts missiles at the nest, causing a large group of Bajins to come after him. Abadede heads towards the Solo Ship. On the Solo Ship, Hatari finds that they are approaching. Bes wonders if the ship can withstand an attack from them. Spotting the Dogg Mack approaching, he orders the Ideon to launch. The Ideon has difficulty moving however due to a lack of power. Abadede throws a Bajin corpse on the Solo Ship, causing them to attack it. The Bajins cause a great deal of damage to the Solo Ship while more and more keep coming. Abadede departs the Dogg Mack in its escape capsule and lands on the Solo Ship. He speaks over a loudspeaker, asking for Karala. Since he’s speaking the Buff Clan language, Karala is the only one who understands it. Hatari realizes that the Bajin are attacking the ship because of the Bajins they’ve killed. The more they kill, the more will attack. The Ideon still has difficulty moving. Abadede walks through the halls of the Solo Ship and encounters Karala. Karala asks him who made the order that she could be cast aside. Abadede lies, saying there’s been no such order and that he’s come to rescue her. Karala tells him to relay the message to her father and sister that she’s cast aside the Buff Clan and is going to stay aboard the Solo Ship. Sheryl arrives but Karala steps in front of her so Abadede can’t kill her. Abadede tells Karala she’ll regret this and runs off. Sheryl refuses to thank Karala and the two slap each other. Abadede departs the Solo Ship and returns to the Dogg Mack. Suddenly, the Ideon gauge activates on and the Solo Ship and Ideon are able to move again. The Ideon and Dogg Mack battle each other. Cosmo throws Bajin corpses at the Dogg Mack, which also accidentally attacks one of them. Suddenly the Bajins switch their focus to the Dogg Mack and destroy it, killing Abadede. The Solo Ship takes off and leaves the planet. Gije and Damido wonder what happened and depart into Null Space. Aboard the Solo Ship, Sheryl finds Karala’s translation device to be little help.

Commentary

The plot finally starts going somewhere starting with this episode. The Solo Ship arrives at a new, strange planet, Crystal Star, with very dangerous bird like creatures, the Bajin. Abadede meets his demise after one last attempt to rescue Karala, who has now completely cast aside her ties to the Buff Clan. This episode introduces Karala’s elder sister Harulu, one of the series’s primary villains. She seems like quite a bitch from the start. Sheryl also displays quite bad behavior in this episode, first being skeptical of Karala’s assistance and later showing no gratitude when Karala saves her from being shot by Abadede.
