The Earth Union Military gives the Solo Ship permission to land close to a nearby base. The military request the Solo Ship leader come. Bes heads there with Cosmo on a hovercraft. The two come to the base and head inside. Cosmo is held back as Bes is brought in to see the commander. The base commander, Rice and his assistant Nujean, tells Bes to hand over the Solo Ship and Ideon. They offer Bes a promotion for handing over the Ideon. Bes doesn’t commit to anything and on their way out, he and Cosmo are taken captive. Aboard the Garowa Zan Rukuku finds a video tape in Daram’s belongings. Meanwhile on the Solo Ship, Kasha and the others wonder what has happened to Bes and Cosmo. Kasha wonders whether Bes has abandoned them to return to his nearby hometown. In their cell, Cosmo wants to deactivate their transmission devices but Bes wants one more chance to talk to the base commander. Meanwhile Rice and Nujean tell Bes’ parents that he has betrayed the Earth military. Rice tells Bes’ parents to convince him to abandon the Solo Ship and Ideon. They are brought to his cell but Bes initially hides then denies the military’s claims. Bes refuses to face his parents and threatens to kill himself. Bes tells Cosmo that he has no choice but to abandon his family. Meanwhile in space the Buff Clan’s forces head towards the Earth including the new mecha Abzonol. The Solo Ship detects the oncoming Buff Clan forces. The pilots head to the Ideon and the Solo Ship takes off. The Ideon combines while still on the Solo Ship deck. Karala reports that the transmission signals from Bes and Cosmo have changed. Hatari says they don’t have the time to go back for them now with the Buff Clan approaching. Karala runs off, wanting to head out and save Bes. The Buff Clan forces relentlessly attack the Solo Ship. Cosmo and Bes, looking out of the window of their cell realize that the Buff Clan is attacking. Karala opens Gije’s cell.

Karala tells Gije that he has to show the Solo Ship crew that they need him and he should help her rescue Bes and Cosmo. The Ideon and Solo Ship continue to take damage from the Buff Clan. Bes’ parents go outside and see the battle. Bes’ father thinks that he has ashamed the family and should die honorably. Bes’ mother makes him think otherwise. Gije and Karala depart the Solo Ship on a hovercraft and head towards the military base. The crew realizes that Gije and Karala have left, but can’t go after them due to the battle. The Abzonol grabs ahold of the Ideon and starts drawing energy from it. The Adigos take the opportunity to fire upon the Ideon. The Ideon launches its all missile attack but still fails to break the Abzonol’s hold. Rukuku orders the Abzonol to bring the Ideon with them. Meanwhile Karala and Gije arrive at the military base. Gije and Karala head through the base and Gije takes out all of the guards. They come across Bes’ cell where his parents continue to plead with him. Gije knocks out the guards and tells Bes’ parents to escape. Karala fires at the cell door, breaking out Bes and Cosmo. Bes and Cosmo thank Gije for rescuing them. The Ideon’s power suddenly goes up and it destroys the surrounding Adigos. The Ideon lands aboard the Solo Ship and the Abzonol blows up due to the large increase in power. Bes’ mother says the recent events have been a nightmare as they head through the destroyed city. Bes looks down at the Earth from the Solo Ship deck as it ascends into the atmosphere.

Commentary

This episode is both a hit and miss. The main storyline of the episode, where Bes and Cosmo are taken captive by the Earth’s military goes pretty well. Bes’s parents actually make an appearance, but things don’t go well as Bes is proclaimed a traitor. In typical Tomino fashion, Bes doesn’t get a true goodbye and things don’t end well on very good terms. Gije gets to prove himself when he helps Karala save Bes, which should hopefully increase his chances of being accepted by the crew in the future. The battle part of this episode is rather boring and the new Buff Clan mecha Abzonol after having a lot of success against the Ideon is suddenly defeated when the Ideon gets a power increase with no explanation whatsoever, as if they ran out of time in the episode and simply had to end things quickly. The animation in this episode is also quite poor, particularly compared to the last half a dozen episodes or so.
