Damido is preparing a squad to attack Solo when Birasu informs him that Gije is attempting to open up communication with them instead. Sheryl translates the communication, which requests three people from each side meet up and come to terms on releasing Karala. Bes wants to flee from Solo, even though they don’t know enough about the DS Drive to know where they’ll end up. Sheryl wants to head towards an Andromeda base to get assistance, but Bes doesn’t want the Buff Clan to know where other Earthlings are. He decides to ignore the Buff Clan’s request and escape from Solo. Sheryl decides to contact the Andromeda Base Braziller on her own. Meanwhile on the Gataman Zan, Damido requests Abadede allow him to attack since those on Solo haven’t responded to them. Abadede decides to let him go. Damido leads a squad towards Solo. Abadede tells Gije that he’s too obsessed with Karala and his career will suffer because of it. He says to focus on the Ide instead. Damido’s squad of Gil Baus approach the Solo Ship. Damido doesn’t seem to care if anything happens to Karala. The Gil Baus start striking the Solo Ship. Each of the three Ideon units head out to fight, but have a hard time against the enemy. Bes realizes that they must have abandoned Karala which is why they’re fighting so fiercely this time. Locked up in the Solo Ship, Karala and Mayaya come to the conclusion that they’ve been abandoned. Karala thinks her father and sister don’t care if she makes it out alive. Mayaya gets upset and convinces the guard to open their cell. She overtakes him and takes his gun. Two more Solo Ship crew members arrive and shoot Mayaya, killing her. Bes gets upset with Kasha for trying to attack the enemy on her own. Joliver contacts Bes and tells her that they are now able to use the DS Drive to escape. Suddenly, a strange light emanates from the Solo Ship. Each of the Ideon units are slowly pulled into the Solo Ship and it blasts off from the ground, into space. Birasu is surprised, thinking a Null Space Drive could only be used while in space. Damido tells him to contact Abadede so they can follow them.
Abadede calls back Damido so they can chase the Solo Ship. Abadede tells Gije this is the chance he’s been waiting for, and that he’ll allow Gije to use the Heavy Mobile Mecha Giran Dou. The Ideon transforms into its humanoid form as the Solo Ship heads through Null Space. Bes asks Joliver where Karala is. Joliver says she’s with Karala. At that moment, Sheryl is using a mind reader device, the Confessograph on Karala, trying to get her to reveal where the Buff Clan home world is. Bes, Kasha and Cosmo arrive. Bes is upset at Sheryl for using such a device on her. Meanwhile, Gije departs from the Gataman Zan on the Giran Dou. Karala talks about the infinite power of the Ide and says it is similar to love. Bes starts laughing at Karala’s idealism. Cosmo and Kasha think this is a waste of time. Bes and Sheryl don’t think its worth using her to find out where the Buff Clan homeworld is. Sheryl says that she considers Karala harmless. The Solo Ship is suddenly struck by the Buff Clan. Bes and the others head to the Ideon. Bes says to be careful, for if they don’t remain in the Null Space region they could get stranded anywhere in the universe. The Ideon stands up and head out. Gije thinks that the Ideon, like other craft, could go down with a single hit while in Null Space. The Giran Dou overtakes the Ideon and knocks it near the edge of Null Space, far away from the Solo Ship. Gije continues to fire at the Ideon to no avail and the Ideon is able to punch the Giran Dou. Gije is bewildered that the Ideon could take so many hits and retreats. The Ideon heads back towards the Solo Ship in order to protect it. The Gataman Zan keeps firing at the Solo Ship until the Ideon starts attacking it. Gije uses the Giran Dou to knock the Ideon away from the Gataman Zan and into its firing path. The Ideon is able to escape from the Giran Dou and returns to the front of the Solo Ship. Bes wants to escape from Null Space even though they have no idea where they’ll end up. Using the DS Drive Brake, the Solo Ship departs from Null Space, escaping from the enemy. The Solo Ship appears in front of a strange planet.
The Solo Ship finally departs from Solo and we get our first battle in Null Space. Existing in a cylindrical-like dimension, Null Space is a tough place to battle, although the Ideon can certainly withstand a lot of firepower as Gije finds out. This episode also introduces us to the first Heavy Mobile Mecha, the Giran Dou. In addition, we get the first death of a recurring character when Karala’s assistant Mayaya is gunned down on the Solo Ship. Her death will be completely changed in the compilation movie. Having been made immediately after Gundam, Tomino made sure to sprinkle tons of Gundam references in this show, and we get one here in this episode as Karala discusses the “Gundam Nebula” while under the control of Sheryl’s Confessograph.
