L.Gaim Ep. 2: Prearmo Scandal

0
Summary

The Works heads towards the city of Prearmo. Daba makes sure to hide the L.Gaim in a nearby chasm. Amu offers to stay behind and watch it, but Kyao thinks she would steal the L.Gaim as soon as they leave, so she heads with them. Daba says they’ll find Amandara Kamandara and give him the credit chip and immediately return. They head to Prearmo on two Desks flossers. Kyao complains about the primitive appearance of the city. Once they park, the three split up and decide to meet up in an hour. None of them have much luck and Amu meets back up with Kyao. Daba is confronted by three of the bandits in an alley and he knocks one of them out. Kyao and Amu are also surrounded by more of the bandits. They mistakenly believe Kyao was the one who cut off Lilin’s arm. Luckily, Daba arrives on his Desks and they are able to take off. The bandits chase them through the streets of the city. Amu fires upon them but misses. She fires again and destroys one of the bandit’s crafts. After being confronted with a much larger one, however, Amu and Kyao flee into an alley. They head back out and are captured by an even more imposing craft. Daba accidentally heads over a cliff and starts falling down. Luckily, he’s able to take back control of his Desks and is successful in hiding from the bandits chasing him. Hiding in a small theater, he overhears an old man talking to a small fairy, Lilith. Daba has a vision of her flying around him, then pleasing a crowd of people at the theatre. Daba walks into the empty theatre and the man isn’t amazed by the credit chip. Daba offers him the credit chip for Lilith, but the man thinks it’s a fake. He uses a machine to verify it, and upon seeing the million geen balance, he agrees to sell her. Underlings of Amandara find out the credit chip was used at the theatre and head out to track it down. Daba leaves and Lilith steals the credit chip from the man. A large group of men rush in, looking for the chip. The old man tells them Daba ran off with it and they leave after shooting him.

Daba heads back to the Works with Lilith. Daba talks to her about him being the last of the Mizun Dynasty. Lilith flies off. Meanwhile, Kyao is beat up by the bandits who captured him and Amu. Lilin comes in and slaps him, demanding to know where the L.Gaim is. She hears from one of the bandits that Amandara is looking for them. She tortures Kyao some more while Lilith watches from above. Lilith flies back to Daba and informs him that she found Amu and Kyao. She leads him there. Lilin tells Kyao she still has Amu to torture, so she can kill him if she wants. Kyao admits to her that the L.Gaim is in a nearby ravine and most of the bandits head out to capture it. Daba comes in and knocks out the guards. He unties Amu and Kyao, who admits to him that he revealed where the L.Gaim and the Works are. Lilin laughs upon reaching the L.Gaim, realizing that Kyao was telling the truth. One of the bandits gets into it and is surprised to see there’s not much of a cockpit. He’s able to stand up the L.Gaim but finds it very unstable. He starts walking with it, impressing everyone. Amu knocks out one of the bandits in the Works. Daba tries to stop the L.Gaim by remote control and it falls over, nearly landing on Lilin. The bandit piloting the L.Gaim tells Lilin they’ll need to install shock absorbers in the cockpit. Kyao and Amu reveal they’ve taken the Works and fight back against the bandits. With the bandit out of the L.Gaim, Daba transforms the Flicker and flies into the cockpit. The thieves get in their mechas and start firing at the L.Gaim, but it defends their blasts with its shield. The L.Gaim is knocked over by one of the smaller enemies, who have an advantage in this terrain. Daba fires back, but Lilin destroys the energy cable connected to the L.Gaim’s beam cannon. One of the bandits tries to grab the L.Gaim but is overpowered and Daba knocks him away with ease. Lilin becomes frightened and retreats, humiliated at losing to them twice. The battle over, an injured Kyao rests on the coach. Daba decides to head out farther out so they can repair the L.Gaim. Daba introduces Amu and Kyao to Lilith.

Commentary

This episode introduces us to Lilith, who looks strikingly similar to Chum Huau from Dunbine (even though Chum was designed by Tomonori Kogawa and Lilith by Mamoru Nagano). It’s also interesting to note that they have the same voice actor, Maria Kawamura (although Lilith doesn’t speak in this episode, she will later on). It looks like Amu has indeed joined with Daba and Kyao. It seems like this Amandara Kamandara who owns the credit chip is a pretty important person since as soon as the owner of Lilith verifies the credit chip, a lot of men start coming after him. I wonder if the bandits ever knew that credit chip had so much money on it. If they had, there’d be no reason to try and steal the L.Gaim since they’d have so much money.
