L.Gaim Ep. 4: The Connection

0
Summary

In Prearmo, a pair of sleazy men in an alley see Amu stretching her leg around the corner. They head towards her and are confronted by Kyao and Daba, who demand information on Amandara. One of the men tell them he’s an arms dealer who has a bank in the city. The man escapes Kyao’s grasp. Daba feels things will be easy now since Amandara can cash the chip himself. Amu worries since the old man got in trouble earlier. Daba heads to an information center of Amandara’s and announces he is there. The three of them are let in the bank and led by a large group of men. Daba tells Lilith to stay hidden. They are led to Amandara’s head henchman, Modori, who wonders why they are throwing Amandara’s name around. Amu tells him they won’t say anything except to Amandara himself. The men pull out guns and Modori says they’re going to lock them in the basement without food or water. Daba still refuses to hand over the credit chip, saying he’ll only hand it over to Amandara himself. Luckily, everyone is able to escape their grasp and rush out of the bank. In the woods, a couple of the bandits argue. Gavlet shoots at them to get them to stop. Gavlet wonders why they won’t better themselves and try to join the Poseidal military. He still desires to do it himself, and the bandits make fun of him. One of the other bandits arrives and tells Gavlet that Daba is trying to meet Amandara. Gavlet is happy upon hearing he has ties to the military. Kyao, Amu and Lilith leave the bank while Daba holds Modori at gunpoint. Modori reports to Amandara on his computer and Daba shows him the credit chip. Amandara gives him an address and says to meet him there tomorrow. Daba heads back out to the wastelands and meets back up with the others. A Graia military heavy metal approaches them, but they fly around it and avoid it. Kyao is very impressed and wants to pilot something like that. Daba tells him he doesn’t have the money to get a heavy metal like that. That night, Kyao sneaks out of the Works while the others sleep and takes the credit chip with him. He decides to join the military himself and come back for the others later.

Gavlet flies to Amandara’s mansion on a small shuttle and blasts the guard animals. He announces his intentions and is let in. Amandara, a large, bearded man with sunglasses agrees to meet him, impressed with him for defeating the guard animals. Gavlet tells him he’ll get the credit chip back for him in exchange for a recommendation to get into the military. On the Works, Lilith washes dishes in the sink while Daba works out outside. Daba is confident Kyao will be back. Amu wants the two of them to head off together. She heads off on her own to find Kyao. In his mansion, Amandara watches as Gavlet leaves. Daba, working on repairing the L.Gaim, accidentally attracts the bandits to his location when smoke starts coming out of the woods. The bandits start firing into the woods. Kyao meets Giwaza Lowau, a high-ranking member of the Poseidal military, who tells him the credit chip is void. He is thrown out by the beautiful Nei Mo Han. Kyao is humiliated and Amu arrives to accompany him back to the Works. Daba, with just Lilith to help, has a lot of trouble fighting the bandits while he pilots the Works. Gavlet pilots an Autogyro and orders the Autogyros, Zeddas and other mecha to surround him. Daba heads out on the Flicker and shoots down one of the enemies, then transfers into the cockpit of the L.Gaim. Kyao feels bad about going back after what he did. Amu tells him Daba was testing him, although Kyao doesn’t believe her. Lilith arrives and lets them know Daba is being attacked. Daba punches one of the Autogyros, and then hanging off a cliff kicks a Zedda. The bandits blast the cliff and a huge rock falls on top of the L.Gaim, but the powerful heavy metal is able to lift it up with one hand. Gavlet motivates his underlings by telling them they’ll be let in the military if they succeed, but Daba blasts away two more enemies with ease and the rest retreat. Daba and the others head back to the Works.

Commentary

Daba and the others continue in their quest in looking for Amandara and finally are able to contact him, although his underlings give them some trouble. Amandara seems to be quite a powerful person who has influence in the Poseidal military. Kyao, like Gavlet, seems obsessed with joining the military and runs off on his own but ends up being humiliated instead. His short-lived quest introduces us to Giwaza, head of the “Elite 13” of the Poseidal military, and the vicious Nei Mo Han. Daba shows off his immense skill in the L.Gaim again, managing to hold off the bandits on his own. Although he’s now their leader, Gavlet doesn’t seem to be getting much respect from them. I’m sure he’ll ditch them as soon as he’s able to fulfill his quest of getting in the military.
