L.Gaim Ep. 54: Dreamers Again

0
Summary

Soldiers try to flee from Sveto since Metta is falling towards the city. Amu thinks of Olibee, who is singing the anthem of Koam. In the dock, Amandara is taken captive by Mian’s soldiers but the ceiling collapses, crushing his butler Eiman, but allowing him to escape. Mian tells Mahoul and Hans not to let him take the Original Auge. Daba’s L.Gaim Mk-II arrives close by and tries to attack Amandara, who has run into a separate room. Daba tears through the door, only to be attacked by the Original Auge. Amandara gets inside. Mian feels weak from the strength of the powerful heavy metal and is carried away by Mahoul and Hans. Amandara says with the power of the bio-relation, which absorbs the energy of people, he won’t be defeated. His hair turns white and his eyes become mismatched like Mian’s. Olibee feels weak and Amu rushes back toward the Turner. Gavlet confronts her in his A.Taul and requests to know where Olibee is. He declares that he loves Olibee and Amu says she’ll hand her over if he saves Daba. Amu says Olibee is here and Gavlet jumps aboard the L.Gaim. Gavlet carries off Olibee with him and Lilith, who disagrees with Amu’s choice, yells at him. Gavlet says he’ll keep his promise and heads off in the A.Taul with Olibee. Poseidal attacks Daba and says even though he’s of the Yaman Clan, the Original Auge is invincible with the power of Sveto. Mian feels like the energy is leaving her body. Hans says they’ll bring her to a shuttle so she can escape, but Mian says no, they must lead her to Lachesis. No living person can enter that room, save for Mian. Daba attacks the Original Auge with all his power but isn’t able to damage it at all. Poseidal tears one of the arms out of the L.Gaim Mk-II and tells Daba he would have had a good life if he had done what he told him to. Daba says he’ll refuse to let someone control his life. He fires at the Original Auge and knocks it over. Poseidal realizes he loses his invulnerability if he leaves the immediate energy field he is in. He fires at the L.Gaim Mk-II but just narrowly misses. Daba wonders why he was vulnerable for a moment, and the Original Auge pulls out its scythe. Meanwhile, Giwaza’s forces head towards Sveto and he’s told that Metta will crash there in 10 minutes. Giwaza boasts that he’ll be king of Pentagona in 10 minutes. Semuj, aboard the Whale, is unable to contact Daba or the others. Leccee flies through the city in her Novel D.Sserd and is attacked by a G.Roon. They fall into a long shaft and Leccee defeats it. Finding a cross at the bottom of the shaft, she heads down and realizes she’s at the center of Sveto. She heads off on her Flicker and finds the corpses of Mahoul and Hans outside of a large shrine. They crumble to dust when she touches them. She wonders if this is Poseidal’s secret and heads into the shrine. There she finds a giant statue of a cloaked woman with energy emitting from it. She finds Mian collapsed on the stairs below the statue. Gavlet tells Elaine that he’ll be the only rebel and they should return to the military. She thinks he’s a goofball. Mian tells Leccee that Daba is fighting the true Poseidal and shows her an image of the L.Gaim Mk-II and Original Auge fighting. She asks Leccee to carry her to the altar below the statue so she can stop Poseidal. She says it’s their only chance since Metta will be crashing here soon.

Daba realizes that Poseidal has to remain in a certain area to absorb the bio-relation energy. Poseidal reveals that his parents were tortured to death by the Yaman Clan, but Daba doesn’t believe him. Daba attacks the Original Auge just as Mian sits in the alter at the Lachesis shrine. The L.Gaim Mk-II is decapitated but, Daba manages to deal a blow to the Original Auge with his beam saber. Poseidal wonders if Mian has stopped the bio-sensor and he starts to age. Daba has trouble moving the L.Gaim Mk-II and Poseidal attacks, but Gavlet arrives in a Bat-Shu and blocks him. Poseidal continues to age tremendously until he dies and the Original Auge loses all its power. Mian says only Poseidal’s love was able to control her, and with the bio-relation stopped, crumbles to dust. Sveto starts shaking and begins to ascend into the air above the ocean. Giwaza is shocked to see Sveto moving, something he thought couldn’t happen. Sveto moves away from Metta, which crashes harmlessly into the ocean. Daba heads out of the L.Gaim Mk-II on the Viewy. Amu looks for Daba and is confident he’ll be able to escape. Giwaza thinks that Sveto has used up all its energy to avoid Metta and says all that’s left is to defeat the rebels and he’ll be victorious. Daba and Gavlet head out of Sveto and meet up with Amu. Daba tells Amu to get out of the L.Gaim and he heads into it on the Viewy. He kisses her on the way in. Daba declares to his forces that Poseidal is dead and they now just need to defeat Giwaza. The rebels are confident they’ll win as long as Daba is with them. Daba approaches the Sarge Opus and is attacked by Baan in his Ashura Temple. Luckily, Kyao arrives and with his help, Baan is killed. Giwaza is told that they are suffering heavy losses. The Slender Skala targets Giwaza’s forces from the atmosphere and blows up most of the remaining ships in Giwaza’s forces. Daba targets the Sarge Opus with his L.Gaim. Giwaza heads out in an escape shuttle and attacks Gavlet’s Bat-Shu. Daba fires at him with the buster launcher and the shuttle is vaporized. The military announces its surrender to the rebels, and the rebels celebrate their victory. Gavlet returns Olibee to Daba since she sees him only as a brother. Later, Daba decides to go back to Koam with Olibee. Kyao decides to go off on his own with Lilith. Daba says goodbye to everyone and heads off with Olibee. Everyone watches as the Turner takes off. Leccee tells Amu that Amandara got his final revenge on the Yaman Clan since Daba will be spending the rest of his life taking care of Olibee, who has been brain damaged as a result of the bio-sensor. She, Amu and Lilith start crying, but admit that Daba chose that fate.

Commentary

L.Gaim ends in a thrilling manner as all the plot threads are resolved and the rebels succeed in defeating the military. The final battle between Daba and Poseidal ended up being rather anti-climatic since Poseidal was virtually invulnerable, then died suddenly once the bio-relation was stopped. It’s quite a shock that in the end Poseidal was not defeated because Daba struck him down, but because he aged to death. Although the rebels succeed in defeating Poseidal, the show ends in a rather depressing way as Daba decides to spend the rest of his life taking care of his sister on Koam. Amu and Leccee vied for his love the entire series and in the end neither one was able to get it. Despite the depressing nature of the ending, one can’t really complain considering Tomino’s other series that came out in this time period. Usually the entire cast is slaughtered at the end of his shows, but while all the villains in L.Gaim died with the exception of Anton and Rockley (who was prominent in the previous episode but completely vanished in this one), every single one of our heroes made it out alive in the end. So we can certainly be happy about that.
