L.Gaim Ep. 8: Yaman Clan

Summary

Leccee and her companion wonder why the rebels haven’t attacked their shuttle as they wait for help. Gavlet arrives on an Autogyro looking for her. He recovers her and flies off. Leccee calls him a boy and he lets her fall off, but he rescues her just before she hits the water. Leccee slaps him for trying to intimidate her. Meanwhile, Kyao beats up one of the rebels, Reeve, accusing him of being a bandit. The rebel’s leader, Stella Coban, arrives and Amu tells him to apologize. Daba says he wants to head after Amandara as soon as the L.Gaim is repaired. Daba wonders about the rebels’ intelligence network. Stella is impressed by the L.Gaim, but Daba says he still hasn’t reached his full potential yet. Stella gets mad at Kyao for saying the Poseidal military’s clothes are cool, and Kyao apologizes after Daba yells at him. Leccee and Gavlet head to the spaceport and receive an oral message from Chai, who says to head after the suspicious yacht which has just arrived at Mizun. Gavlet wants to head off on his own to prove himself, but ends up going together with Leccee. The Works heads across the wasteland and avoids an old city of the Yaman Clan, the people who ruled Mizun before Poseidal took over. Daba insists they head there, however, using the excuse that they want to learn as much as they can about Mizun. Kyao wanders through an abandoned house and finds a mummified corpse, which scares him. Reeve tells them he was one of the Yaman, who was killed by Poseidal as part of the Yaman Extermination Plan. This abandoned city is left here as a museum to remind everyone that this will happen to anyone who opposes Poseidal. Reeve is upset since Poseidal conquered all five planets of the Pentagona System this way. They spot some incoming Autogyros and hide in one of the abandoned buildings. The Autogyros start shooting at all the buildings recklessly. Lilith flies out and causes some birds to fly out and get in the way of the Autogyros, which all crash. Kyao says they should go as Daba thinks about the Yaman Clan being wiped out. Gavlet and Leccee head towards the old city. The group starts heading back to the Works on the Flicker. Daba thinks about how he heard this town was a lot better than it really is.

The group heads towards the old castle of the Yaman Clan’s ruler, which is similarly left in ruin. The Flicker heads to a cliff near the water and flies through the rock, which is just a hologram. Inside the cavern is the Whale, Amandara’s solar yacht. Daba is anxious to meet with Amandara so they can end this once and for all and calls out for him. Shots start firing out at them and they hide. Kyao tosses Reeve forward. Eiman, Amandara’s secretary, comes out and apologizes, saying he’s waiting for them. They head in and find Amandara sitting at a long table. Daba slams down the credit chip on the table, stating that many have died because of it. Amandara says he wants to reward him and Daba responds by punching him in the face and knocking food everywhere. Kyao and Amu stay to eat while Daba, Lilith and Reeve head back to the abandoned city and split up. Daba and Lilith find a group of soldiers and he’s quickly attacked, but Reeve shows up and helps Daba escape. The head of the soldiers says to contact their base. Reeve asks Daba if he’s been here before since he isn’t acting like everyone else. They fly through an alley and reach a dead end. Reeve says there might be a way out through the sewer. Gavlet, meanwhile, is reported to about Daba showing up in the abandoned city. He and Leccee head there to look for him. On the Whale, Amandara tells Kyao and Amu he put a tracking device on the Flicker and that Daba’s now being pursued. Amu runs off to save him, but Kyao is upset they’re leaving without a reward. Amandara lets them take two Axe flossers. They head back to the city, which is already showing signs of a battle. Daba and Reeve head through the sewers on the Flicker. They are contacted by Amu and decide they’ll meet at a canal nearby. Daba flies towards the exit of the sewers, only to run into Gavlet in his Graia. Gavlet fires at them, knocking Reeve into the water. Daba tries to head out of the sewer but sees Leccee’s Spirit booster flying around as well. He eventually gets out and narrowly avoids Gavlet’s attack. Amu gets into the L.Gaim and heads out to save Daba. Leccee is confused upon seeing the L.Gaim head out. Gavlet fires at the L.Gaim, knocking it down. Kyao brings the Works into the battle, allowing Daba to fly the Flicker into the L.Gaim’s cockpit, nearly crushing Amu. The L.Gaim overpowers the Graia and Gavlet is forced to retreat, although he’s unable to grab onto Leccee’s Spirit. Daba checks Amu to see if she’s okay. Kyao tells him that Reeve was captured by the military. They head back toward the city.

Commentary

A lot of interesting stuff happens in this episode. Most notable is Daba finally returning the credit chip to Amandara. In a rather shocking turn of events, Daba is quite mad at him for all the trouble the credit chip caused and punches him in the face! Despite that, Amandara still seems willing to help, although our heroes are forced to depart rather quickly. We are introduced to Stella, the leader of the rebels on Mizun, although we don’t see him that long. More importantly, we learn about the Yaman Clan, the former leaders of Mizun before Poseidal took over. Daba seems mysteriously familiar with the Yaman Clan… Finally, it looks like Leccee and Gavlet will be teaming up for a little while. I wonder if Leccee will be able to get over her crush on Daba and be able to attack him with all her might.
