In UC 0075, the Earth Federation Forces ordered the construction of eight Lockwood class vessels to serve as their next generation submarines. Construction on the first two vessels began at the end of UC 0076, with the rest starting the following year. By January UC 0079, seven vessels were completed and commissioned. As the One Year War began, Zeon forces invaded Earth, and special forces units captured all seven vessels, along with the construction facilities and the nearly complete eighth ship. The vessels were modified at the California Base, and starting in June were recommissioned as Zeon’s Mad Angler class. The conversion process to the Mad Angler class was completed by September. Similarly, the Zeon also converted 24 captured EFF Juneau class submarines into the Jukon class.
