The Macross 7 was a New Macross class ship that consisted of a docked Battle class stealth space attack carrier and a City class colonization ship. Like other carriers of the class, Battle 7 was armed with a Gunship super beam weapon, multiple beam/energy cannons, beam phalanxes, reaction missile launchers and standard missile launchers. It could also accommodate hundreds of variable fighters and other craft. Launched from Earth in 2038, the Macross 7 fleet was commanded by Capt. Maximilian Jenius, a famous ace pilot and veteran of Space War I. Maximilian Jenius commanded the U.N. Spacy military forces in the fleet, while his wife, ace pilot Milia Fallyna Jenius, served as Mayor of City 7. As of 2045, the population of City 7 was around 350,000 civilians. Travel between ships in the fleet was facilitated by the Milky Road network.
In March 2045, the Macross 7 fleet came under attack from the Varauta army controlled by the mysterious Protodeviln. Over the next year, the Protodeviln frequently attacked the Macross 7 fleet in their quest for Spiritia energy, which included an operation in May where City 7 was detached from Battle 7 and hijacked. The two ships were reunited in August following an intensive search by Battle 7’s military forces. In September, the fleet traveled to the habitable planet Rax after receiving an invitation from the Macross 5 fleet. However, upon arrival it was discovered that the Varauta had destroyed the fleet and captured its citizens. The fleet remained at Rax until the planet’s destruction in December, during which time Protoculture ruins were discovered and analyzed. In February 2046, the Macross 7 fleet traveled to Varauta IV under U.N. Spacy orders to defeat the Protodeviln at all costs. The final battle of the Protodeviln War resulted in the destruction of Battle 7, although a replacement was under construction a year later.
