Macross Plus

Macross Plus is an OVA series released in Japan from 1994-1995. Originally intended to be a film, it was expanded during development into a four-episode OVA, and then later re-released as a compilation film. Co-directed by Shoji Kawamori and Shinichiro Watanabe, the series was written by Keiko Nobumoto and features mechanical designs by Kawamori and Kazutaka Miyatake, character designs by Masayuki Yamaguchi and a score by Yoko Kanno. The series takes place in 2040 and focuses on Isamu Alva Dyson, a reckless U.N. Spacy pilot who is reassigned to his homeworld Eden to serve as a test pilot for a next generation variable fighter. The compilation movie, released shortly after the end of the OVA series, omits some scenes and storylines while also adding new scenes. The OVA series and movie were originally released on home video in North America by Manga Entertainment. In 2024, both the OVA and movie were released on Blu-ray in multiple territories by Europe-based Anime Limited.
