Because there were no space use variants of the MSJ-04 Fantong, the Human Reform League deployed the mobile armor MAJ-S08 Xiaoshou to fill the gap. The single tank on its lower body was a fuel tank, and its sole armament was a smoothbore gun. Subsequently, the MSJ-06II-E Tieren Space Type replaced the Xiaoshou as the HRL’s space combat machine. The Xiaoshou was then used for space development, orbital elevator maintenance, etc. Thus, the unit was reclassified as a work loader and was well-liked by the workers for several reasons. One reason was that despite its small size, it had high mobility. Another popular feature was the ability of its pair of hands to perform delicate work. Lastly, it had high performance despite its low operation cost. Some Xiaoshou were later sold to civilians, and there were civilian use versions produced by licensed manufacturers. During her schooling days, Chall Acustica requested a Xiaoshou for use in a competition. However, her request was denied because there were still many Xiaoshou used for combat purposes. In 2314, the outdated Xiaoshou was pressed into service by the Earth Sphere Federation to bolster its defense line during the ELS invasion.
