In the last months of the 7th Space War, the Space Revolutionary Army developed the ambitious Operation Lilac to bring a quick end to the war. The plan involved sending five RMSN-008 Bertigo units down to Earth along with the massive mobile armor MAN-003 Patulia to attack the United Nations Earth’s headquarters. However, the Bertigo pilots were killed in atmospheric combat and the Patulia veered off course and crashed. The Patulia was the largest mobile armor ever created and was the length of a space battleship. Its main weapons included four particle cannons and 30 wired beam cannons. It was also equipped with anti-beam field generators, giving it a powerful defense. Piloting this monstrous mobile armor didn’t come without a price, however. To operate, the Patulia required a Newtype to be placed in a capsule as a power source. The Newtype’s mind was erased and dedicated to solely piloting the Patulia. This type of control allowed the Newtype to use the wired beam cannons in the same manner as the Bertigo’s bits.
Former S.R.A. scientist Nomoa Long discovered the Patulia after the war and hid it underneath the North American city of Fort Severn. While posing publicly as the city’s mayor, he secretly experimented with artificial Newtypes for years in his plot to avenge himself on the U.N.E.. In A.W. 0015, Long found his ideal pilot in the form of the artificial Newtype Carris Nautilus. With the fully functional Patulia, Long destroyed most of his own city. Newtype Tiffa Adill was able to contact Carris’ mind, which allowed Garrod Ran to break into the control room with his GX-9900-DV Gundam X Divider and rescue Carris. With no Newtype to power it, the lifeless Patulia crashed into Fort Severn.
