Technical and Historical Notes

The MS-17 Galbaldy α, a mobile suit developed by the Principality of Zeon at the end of the One Year War, was seized by the Earth Federation Forces after the war and completed in the form of the improved RMS-117 Galbaldy-β. Its cockpit was converted to a linear seat and its operating system replaced with a newer version, and the mobile suit's weight was also reduced by completely remodeling its exterior. Thanks to these modernizing improvements, it remained in use on the front lines as of UC 0086. Since these machines were produced at the EFF's Luna II base, most of them were assigned to the space forces centered around the Luna II garrison. The basic performance of the Galbaldy-β was equivalent to that of the RMS-179 GM II and RMS-106 Hi-Zack, but since it had no particular distinctive qualities it was not formally adopted by the Titans. Thus the attachment of a booster unit was being evaluated as a way of enhancing its performance without having to make drastic modifications. The booster pod was similar to that used by other Titans Test Team machines. This booster pod contained the same supplemental generator installed in the RX-121 Gundam TR-1 "Hazel" movable booster pod, and it had a pair of weapon latches that could hold shield boosters, long-range cannons, missile pods, beam smart guns, disc radome systems, and other equipment. Tests were performed using the machine that was assigned to the Titans Test Team along with Maxim Gunar, but its mobility proved inferior to the RX-121-2 Gundam TR-1 "Hazel II" and its tri-booster unit.
