Technical and Historical Notes

The YMS-15SS Gyan Vulcan was a custom Gunpla built by Susumu Sazaki. It is based on the YMS-15 Gyan from the 1979 anime TV series Mobile Suit Gundam. The Gunpla featured a customized backpack that mounted a pair of 3-barrel Gatling guns. It was also armed with a pair of beam sabers and missile shields. The Gyan Vulcan’s backpack, shoulder armor and missile shields could combine to form a support unit known as the Valuable Pod. Sazaki used the Gyan Vulcan in battle against Ricardo Fellini’s XXXG-01Wfr Gundam Fenice Rinascita, but he was quickly defeated. Years later, Sazaki’s obsession with the Gyan was inherited by his younger sister Kaoruko, who used the AMX-104GG R-GyaGya in the 13th Gunpla Battle Japanese U-19 Championship.
