Technical and Historical Notes

The Hashmal was one of the unmanned mobile armors that menaced humanity during the Calamity War and were ultimately defeated by Gjallarhorn’s 72 Gundam high performance mobile suits. The origin and development history of the mobile armors was unknown. The Hashmal’s body was covered with nanolaminate armor, making it difficult to destroy with standard weapons. The Hashmal could deploy multiple unmanned Mobile Worker-like units called Pluma that were powered by microwaves from the Hashmal. The Plumas received orders from the Hashmal in real time. Armed with a railgun, the Plumas functioned both as protection for the Hashmal and as scouts for resources. The Hashmal’s built-in armaments included a head-mounted beam weapon, a pair of kinetic energy shot launchers and a devastating superhard wire blade. In the P.D. 320s, Tekkadan discovered the inactive Hashmal on Mars while mining half-metal. Accidentally reactivated by the proximity of a mobile suit, the Hashmal and its Plumas cut a path of destruction that led it toward the city of Chryse. A joint force from Gjallarhorn and Tekkadan confronted the Hashmal, which was ultimately defeated in a fierce battle against Mikazuki Augus’ ASW-G-08 Gundam Barbatos Lupus. The heavily damaged Barbatos Lupus was subsequently upgraded into the Barbatos Lupus Rex, which salvaged the Hashmal’s superhard wire blade.
