Technical and Historical Notes
Introduced shortly after the RGM-119 Jamesgun, the RGM-122 Javelin soon became one of the Earth Federation Forces' primary mainstay mobile suits. Considered a brother to the Jamesgun, the Javelin Prototype initially shared many body parts and internal systems with that model. In addition to the usual vulcan guns, beam sabers, beam shield, and beam rifle, the Javelin also carried two shot lancers - a highly effective close-combat weapon introduced by the Crossbone Vanguard. The Javelin was also highly adaptable, as its shot lancers could be removed and replaced with other weapons or equipment to fill a variety of mission roles. A variant unit, the RGM-122C Javelin Cannon, replaced the shot lancers with a pair of beam cannons. Another variant, the Mega Spear Loading Type, featured special mega spears for anti-ship combat. The Javelin proved to be a popular mobile suit, and it continued to serve the EFF for several decades. However, it later proved highly ineffective against the invading Zanscare Empire forces in UC 0153, thus illustrating another symptom of the Earth Federation's continued slip into stagnation.
