Technical and Historical Notes

The MS-05B Zaku I was the Principality of Zeon’s first mobile suit to see heavy mass production. A pre-war suit, the Zaku I was retired before the One Year War. However, due to losses, it continued to see limited combat throughout much of the war, mostly being used at isolated bases and by supply convoys. As the war progressed and the Zaku I began to see combat more regularly, more of the old mobile suits began to be put back into service. The land warfare Zaku I was little more than a stock Zaku I repainted in region-specific colors. Most Zaku Is were assigned to pilots that request them, or to newly-formed squadrons that were unable to obtain the best equipment available. Some saw action in Southeast Asia, with at least one assigned to Topp. More were assigned to the Midnight Fenrir Corps. Pilot Manning kept his Zaku I throughout the remainder of the war, adding different weapons and option parts to suit his liking. These included a shield, the MS-07B Gouf’s heat sword, and even a shield salvaged from a fallen RGM-79 GM.
