Technical and Historical Notes

The VF-11C Super Thunderbolt was the Super Parts equipped version of the standard VF-11C. The VF-11C placed a focus on atmospheric maneuverability, which came at the cost of onboard missiles. Its dedicated Super parts, similar to the FAST Pack of earlier generations, added several micro-missile launchers, chaff/flare dispensers and two booster units. Thanks to the extra firepower and thrust, the Super Parts became the default configuration for the VF-11C in space operations. Unfortunately, even with the addition of Super Parts, the VF-11C units assigned to the Macross 7 emigration fleet proved inadequate against the Varauta's advanced Fz-109A Elgersoln during the Protodevilin War of 2045-46. Early in the war, the Varauta infiltrated the Macross 7 and hijacked City 7. Afterward, some Super Thunderbolts stationed on Battle 7 were equipped with radomes to conduct search operations.
