Technical and Historical Notes

In 2041, U.N. Spacy selected the VF-19A Excalibur to serve as its new main variable fighter as a replacement for the aging VF-11 Thunderbolt. After production began on the VF-19A, its design was modified in subsequent variants like the VF-19F. Design changes included the removal of the forward canard wings (which were replaced with new vernier thrusters), a redesign of the dorsal fuselage and reduced surface area for the main wings. The redesign resulted in an improvement to the VF-19F’s maneuverability. Its armaments included laser guns, a small-bore beam gun, a bulletproof shield, a Gatling gun pod, a pinpoint barrier and internal missile launchers. The VF-19F could also mount optional Super parts to boost its armaments. In 2045, the Macross 7 long-distance colonization fleet created a new unit called Emerald Force that flew the VF-19F.
