Megazone 23 Part I is an OVA released in Japan in 1985. Originally conceived as a TV series titled Omega City 23, it was retooled into an OVA due to a lack of sponsors. Directed by Noboru Ishiguro, it featured mechanical designs by Shinji Aramaki and Hideki Kakinuma, character designs by Toshihiro Hirano (with guest work by Haruhiko Mikimoto) and a score by Shiro Sagisu. The story focuses on Shogo Yahagi, a young biker whose life is changed when he discovers a world-shaking secret. In 1986, the OVA was heavily edited by Harmony Gold into Robotech: The Movie. The original uncut version was later released by Streamline Pictures, ADV Films and most recently AnimEigo.
