The Mothership was a city ship used by the mysterious Dezalg. Like other city ships, it left Earth five centuries earlier following massive environmental devastation. The various city ships were set to travel through space for five centuries until the Earth had healed enough to allow humans to return. However, the Dezalg chose to initiate a war against Megazone 23, a fellow city ship. With a 50-year technological advantage, the military forces of Megazone 23 were no match for the Dezalg. However, as both ships approached Earth, their arrival activated ADAM, a Moon-based defense system. By interfacing with Eve on Megazone 23, ADAM judged which city ships were worthy of returning to Earth. The program responded by destroying the Dezalg Mothership and most of Megazone 23, although that ship’s core survived and safely landed on Earth.
