Following the Cosmo Babylon War, the Crossbone Vanguard was briefly split by an internal struggle between supporters of Meitzer Ronah’s Nobility Principle and followers of Berah Ronah, who urged a more compassionate approach. After the conflict was resolved, a new warship was constructed to be the symbol of the reunited Vanguard’s newfound strength of purpose. This ship, the Babylonia Vanguard, vanished with all hands in UC 0128, lost somewhere in space. However, in reality, Berah and those loyal to her learned about the secret machinations of the Jupiter Empire and faked their own disappearance so they could engage in a shadow war to protect the Earth, and the Babylonia Vanguard (now rechristened the Mother Vanguard) was the perfect ship for the job.
One of the Mother Vanguard‘s most important features was a Minovsky drive propulsion system, which allowed it to project a “sail of light” that gave it incredible speed and made travel between Earth and Jupiter relatively quick. Additionally, it boasted a full-body beam shield which covered the entire main hull, but couldn’t be used for more than 20 minutes continuously or else it would deplete its energy reserves. The beam shield, combined with the standard Minovsky craft system, allowed the Mother Vanguard to enter a planet’s atmosphere and continue operation just as well as in space.
During the Jovian War, the Mother Vanguard sustained critical damage in battle with the Earth Federation Forces (which, thanks to a false flag operation, believed the Vanguard was hostile). After ordering all crew to the escape pods, Berah had the Mother Vanguard self-destruct to cover their escape. After the war’s end, Anaheim Electronics recovered the ship’s sail and turned it into a Minovsky drive test flight wing, which became a critical part of the Crossbone Vanguard remnants’ attempts to oppose the revived Jupiter Empire.
