As the Earth Federation Forces’ Titans force continued to build up its military and political power in its crusade to rule the Earth Sphere with an iron fist, one area of research actively pursued by the Titans was Cyber Newtypes – artificially-engineered Newtypes who could operate revolutionary new Newtype-controlled weapons. At their Murasame Research Institute in Japan, the Titans built the EFF’s first prototype Newtype-use unit, the MRX-007 Prototype Psycho Gundam. Equipped with a psycommu (“psychic communicator”) system similar to that developed by the Principality of Zeon during the One Year War, the Prototype Psycho Gundam’s tremendous beam weapon firepower could be controlled by the pilot’s mere thoughts. Based on the frame of the RX-178 Gundam Mk-II, the Murasame lab’s goal was to create “the strongest Gundam.” However, because of technological limitations the enormous psycommu system was installed in the unit’s backpack. The Murasame lab refined the prototype, resulting in the creation of the MRX-009 Psycho Gundam, MRX-010 Psycho Gundam Mk-II and MRX-011 Mass Production Type Psycho Gundam.
