Zeon’s ground model MS-07B Gouf mobile suit, intended to be a replacement for the aging MS-06J Zaku II, proved to be somewhat of a problem when it came to armament. Whereas the Zaku II could rely on a wide variety of hand armaments depending on the mission, the Gouf was limited by its permanently mounted tentacle heat rod and 75mm machine gun hand. To overcome this, the Zeon military developed several mission-specific Gouf variants to operate on different fronts of the One Year War. One of these variants was the MS-06C-3 Gouf Heavy Armed Type, deployed primarily in Europe. The old heat rod and single 75mm machine gun hand was replaced by a heavier 85mm machine gun hand on both arms, fed by large-capacity ammunition clips, with spare clips carried on the hips as replacements. These were supplemented by a 30mm machine gun in the forehead for close-range firepower, and extra thrusters were added to the legs to help it overcome the additional weight of its new weapons. Zeon remnants continued to use the Heavy Armed Type as late as UC 0096 as part of an attack on Australia’s Torrington Base.
