The MSJ-06II-A Tieren Ground Type was a mass production mobile suit created by the Human Reform League as the successor to the MSJ-04 Fantong. In use for over a decade, the Tieren rolled out near the end of the Solar Power Wars and was improved numerous times while keeping the same basic structure. Like its predecessor, the Tieren was heavier and slower because mobility was sacrificed for higher defense capability and the ability to carry super heavy weaponry. Although the Tieren’s weapons were less advanced compared to other nations, they were easy to produce, had high reliability and were highly regarded by soldiers. As a result of the HRL focusing its efforts on a single machine, the Tieren’s malfunction rate was 40 percent lower than mobile suits from other nations, and its maintenance time was one fifth of other nations’ suits. Unlike the Fantong, the Tieren did not use a fossil fuel engine and was instead battery powered. The right chest contained a port for external power supply. The basic control system of Tieren and its variants were all standardized, allowing pilots to switch units easily. Unlike the control system of other mobile suits, the Tieren’s cockpit had no monitor. Instead, external images and data were projected onto the pilot’s eyes via the cable connected helmet. The pilot could input commands by using slight movements of the eyeball and head. Due to this system, the helmet completely concealed the pilot’s face.

The Tieren’s main armament was an arm-mounted smoothbore gun that could be loaded with different types of bullets and mounted a coaxial 12.7mm machine gun. The trajectory of the coaxial machine gun was adjusted to synchronize with the main gun’s at a distance of around 2,000 meters. Thus, the machine gun could be fired to accurately know the main gun’s bullet landing point and hence improve the accuracy of the main gun. A carbon blade made of super-hard carbon made full use of the suit’s power and weight during attacks. Even if the attack was blocked, it had sufficient power to cause the opponent to lose its balance. The 30mm machine gun had low firepower but was capable of rapid fire and was mainly used for aerial interception, anti-personnel attacks, and for restricting enemy movements during combat. The bazooka was actually a 550mm missile launcher. It was called a bazooka by the soldiers due to its look and was one of the few Tieren weapons that had a grip. The double column type magazine contained 10 missiles. The rear section of the bazooka slid back to accommodate the missile type and firing range. The weapon was not used against Celestial Being’s Gundams as radar was jammed, preventing the use of the bazooka’s guided missiles. The Tieren had a leg mounted shield to protect the joints in the lower body from enemy attacks. Although the shield was mounted only on the left leg, it could be easily moved to face incoming attacks. When the Tieren was shooting while kneeling, the gap at the top of the shield could be used to support and stabilize the smoothbore gun.

Besides the ground type, the mass produced Tieren also had other variants, plus customized machines for ace pilots. With the appearance of solar reactor equipped mobile suits in 2307, the Tieren was forced to step down from the front lines, and the development of its successor was also frozen. However, as solar reactor equipped suits were still limited in numbers, the Tieren remained in service and was deployed in limited roles such as guarding facilities. The mature mobile suit tactics borne from the use of Tieren were highly regarded by the UN Army, and as such they were included in the forces’ doctrine and continued to be applied.
