The Gryps War saw the introduction of many new experimental mobile suit technologies. The AEUG learned from Char Aznable of the Axis Zeon’s transformable mobile suits AMX-001 Gaza-A and AMX-002 Gaza-B and decided to create their own model under the banner of Project Zeta. The first attempt was the MSN-00100 Hyaku-Shiki, but the design was unable to incorporate a transformation feature. Anaheim Electronics was determined to create a transformable mobile suit, and their next attempt was the successful MSA-005 Methuss. The next step in the project was three prototype MSZ-006-X units. These units did not incorporate the ability to transform and were identical, except for the heads. The X1 incorporated a head similar to that used on the Hyaku-Shiki. In the end it was decided that the head from the X1 was superior and it was incorporated in the final MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam.
