The MSZ-008 Z II was developed under Anaheim Electronics’ Project Zeta as a space use mobile suit. Using the concept of the MSA-005 Methuss, the complicated transformation used in the MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam was simplified and maneuverability was increased. The waverider mode was changed, making atmospheric reentry and flight on the Earth impossible. Also, the waverider mode had great acceleration surpassing the standard mobile suits of the time. The mega beam rifle was connected to the generator, providing a level of power equaling that of the Zeta Gundam’s hyper mega launcher. Anaheim and the AEUG assumed that the Z II would far exceed the capability of other mobile suits developed in UC 0088. The Z II’s manufacturing costs were also excellent. However, even though it had great specs there were several problems with the construction. At the AEUG’s request, Anaheim placed emphasis on completing the MSZ-010 ZZ Gundam. A Z II unit was used by One Year War veteran Travis Kirkland in UC 0090.
