The Papua class supply ship was a mainstay of the Principality of Zeon’s fleet. The Papua was used to transport both goods and mobile suits. Its front hangar could be divided into upper and lower sections, and it could store a total of 24 mobile suits in a laying down position. A work crane pulled the mobile suits out of their resting position and prepared them for launch in battle. Pipes on either side of the hull extended to move supplies from the Papua to another ship. The Papua saw heavy use early in the One Year War, when multiple ships were used to transport large numbers of mobile suits to the Battle of Loum.
