Summary

Noa gets out of Unit 1‘s cockpit as mechanics get to work on maintenance. Asuma tells her that she doesn’t look so good, so he gives her a crab to feel better. Noa is unable to get any sleep and spots a light on in the storage shed. She touches a photo that causes the floor to vanish and sends her falling through a tunnel into a secret underground base. Noa walks into a a room and finds everyone from Division 2 wearing strange jumpsuits. Noa asks what’s going on, and Shinshi explains that they’re part of an organization called CLAT, the Creature from Luna Attack Team. Noa tries to run away, but Goto tells her this isn’t the time to lose it. He points her attention to a screen showing an incoming alien invasion. CLAT deploys several Space Dolphins to fend off the invasion, but they’re no match for the aliens. Noa says to herself that this must be a dream, and Sakaki briefs the team on the alien invaders. He mentions that Shinobu was one of the Space Dolphin pilots they lost track of, so she’s probably dead. Shinshi and Ota fly recon in a Hawk-1 jet plane and spot Shinobu’s damaged Space Dolphin heading for the base. An alien craft shoots at the plane, so Shinobu destroys it. Shinobu reaches the base and is greeted by everyone, but she gives them the news that the Hawk-1 was shot down. Shinshi and Ota are held captive by aliens and then sent back to CLAT, so Asuma shoots them. He said they were behaving strangely, and their bodies melt into purple goo. Asuma realizes that the enemy knows their location, and a large alien force heads for the CLAT Japan base. Shinobu wants to fight and get revenge for her men, but Goto won’t let her. Shinobu decides to go anyway, and Sakaki gives her an access card to the lowest level of the CLAT base. Shinobu launches in a jet fighter and joins the CLAT team in the air.

The CLAT team investigates the Hawk-1 crash site, and Noa wonders if the real Shinshi and Ota are safe. They spot an alien ship, and Kumagami deploys CLAT’s maser cannon carriers. Asuma and Noa infiltrate the alien ship and blast the two aliens. Shinshi and Ota call for help, and Noa sees them on a monitor. Asuma blasts the computer console, which causes Shinshi and Ota to materialize. Jet fighters attack the aliens in the air, and ground forces open fire on the aliens. The jet fighters clear out of the area to allow the maser cannons to fire at the aliens. The aliens start to retreat, but Goto and Shinobu give chase and shoot down a ship. Asuma and the others escape from the alien ship, which launches a balloon that explodes and reveals a giant monster. The monster heads for the CLAT base and destroys the maser cannons. After being knocked aside, Noa pulls out a device and tells Asuma that she’s Ingraman, who was sent to Earth from the AV-98 nebula. The maser cannons prove ineffective against the monster, as does a helicopter attack from Shinshi and Ota. The monster easily takes down the helicopter and reaches the CLAT base. Noa transforms into Ingraman and imprisons the monster in energy beams, but it breaks free. The monster deflects an energy boomerang and starts punching Ingraman. Ingraman shoots lasers at the monster and is hit by returning laser fire that knocks it over. Asuma tells everyone from CLAT that Noa is Ingraman. Shige gives Goto the Mars 1999 Anglemore and tells him to shoot the monster. Ota grabs the weapon and fires it at the monster, which floats away and explodes. Another Ingraman arrives and pulls the first Ingraman into an energy bubble. Goto declares that when Earth is in trouble, Ingraman will come and save them. Ingraman Zero says that he’s come to take Ingraman back to the AV-98 nebula, but Ingraman wants Noa to stay on Earth. Asuma wakes in the hospital after having fallen asleep while Shige recounted his dream about CLAT. Asuma grabs Noa in a headlock and wants to know why she was the hero of his dream.

Commentary

CLAT returns for another episode of wacky dream antics. This time, instead of being a parody of America, it’s a parody of the classic tokusatsu show Ultraman. Since I’m not a fan of Ultraman, I didn’t find this episode as appealing as the first CLAT one. This story finds everyone fighting weird gibberish speaking aliens who deploy a monster that resembles the Griffon. Noa comes to the rescue by transforming Ingraman, but unfortunately she’s taken down by the monster. Given the presence of CLAT, you know instantly that this is a dream, but the dreamer turns out to be the surprise. You assume that it’s Noa because she’s the hero of the dream, but it’s actually Asuma, who dozed off while Shige was taking about his own CLAT dream.
