Hiromi feeds his chickens in the morning and hears a noise in the kitchen, where he finds Noa looking for an ice pack to help with a toothache. At breakfast, Asuma eats Noa’s food and comments that since fewer people have wisdom teeth it’s a sign of how humanity has evolved, so she asks if he’s calling her a throwback. Noa gets mad and takes her food back from Asuma. Later, Shinshi asks Noa what’s wrong, and Ota becomes uncomfortable with how Noa is looking at him. He runs over to Asuma and asks him what he did to Noa since she’s sighing and staring into space. Asuma laughs at Ota and explains that Noa has a cavity, but Ota thinks it looks like more than a cavity. Asuma, Hiromi and Shinshi talk about what could be wrong and how women are delicate. Ota tells Asuma he doesn’t know anything about delicacy, and Kumagami thinks Asuma should just apologize for whatever he did. Asuma runs outside and tries to speak to Noa, but she just walks by him. He calls out to her and apologizes, but she doesn’t understand. He asks if she’s sulking, but she doesn’t know why she would be. He asks what’s up with all her sighing, and she says it’s because her tooth hurts. Asuma tells her to stop doing it because it’s giving people the wrong idea. Hiromi and Ota run over to shut Asuma up, and Shinshi offers to give Noa some painkillers. Kumagami tells Noa she should see a dentist, but Noa answers that she’s not good with hospitals. Shinshi tells Noa to take one of his pills after each meal, but she swallowed them all in one go. Later, Noa nods off during Goto’s briefing and is put to work waxing Unit 1. Noa tells Asuma he’s a jerk for not waking her up, and he tells her that Hiromi kept trying to. He blames her for taking all the pills at once, and she falls asleep, dropping cleaning supplies on his head.
Noa continues to sleep in the office, and Asuma calls her a pain in the ass. Goto walks in and draws a watch on Noa’s hand with permanent marker. After waking up, she blames Asuma for it and won’t listen to him. She later runs away from Asuma in a hallway, and Goto comments that she must dislike him. Asuma brings Noa a meat bun, but she’s still wary around him. Noa drops the bun, and Asuma laughs because she bit into it. Noa yells that she hopes he slips on a banana peel and cracks his head open. Hiromi brings Noa an ice pack, and Shinshi offers to get some medicine when a dispatch call comes in. Division 2 heads to a private forest in pursuit of a stolen Rex 2500. Noa puts on her helmet, which rubs up against her cheek and causes more pain. Ota deploys in Unit 2 with Kumagami following in her command car. Noa moves out in Unit 1, but the vibrations from each step cause her tooth to hurt. Asuma tells her to stop whining, and she says she expected more sympathy. Noa feels nauseous and tells Asuma that she’s going to throw up. Ota gets knocked into trees by the Rex 2500 and pulls out his revolver. The Rex 2500 starts running away, and Ota wastes ammo shooting at it. Goto tells Asuma that the labor is heading in their direction. The Rex 2500 turns away when it spots Unit 1, and Noa blocks its path. The Rex 2500 knocks her into a tree, so she she grabs it and flips it into the air. Noa yells at the pilot to stop resisting arrest and starts pounding it with her fists until it’s disabled. Police pull the crying pilot out of the cockpit, who claims he got tired of video games and wanted to try the real thing. Noa writhes in pain as Shinshi and Hiromi try to remove her helmet. The next day, Noa comes into the office and tells everyone the dentist was able to treat her tooth without having to remove it. Hiromi brings two ice packs for Asuma because his wisdom teeth hurt on both sides of his mouth, so Noa starts harassing him as payback. Goto watches and comments that Noa is surprisingly vindictive.
This episode focuses on something everyone can relate to – the menace of a toothache. Reportedly, the inspiration for this episode was a toothache that Mamoru Oshii suffered from one day. As everyone who’s ever felt one can agree, even simple things like drinking cold water can become unbearable. For Noa, it gets even worse as she’s forced to pilot Unit 1 and feel more pain. The pain from that causes her to go overboard and give a Griffon-type pummeling to the stolen labor, which apparently was nabbed by a crybaby gamer. Of course, Noa’s pain isn’t helped at all by Asuma being such a jerk the whole time. In the end, Noa recovers and gets her revenge on Asuma, who now has aches from two wisdom teeth.
