The PFF-X7 Core Gundam was a custom Gunpla created by the Diver Hiroto (aka Hiroto Kuga). It was based on the RX-78-2 Gundam from the 1979-80 anime TV series Mobile Suit Gundam. The Core Gundam was considerably smaller and lacking in firepower compared to its inspiration, but Hiroto was able to effectively fight regular-sized mobile suits thanks to his considerable piloting skills. The Core Gundam’s smaller size allowed it to work in conjunction with Hiroto’s PLANETS System, a series of upgrade parts that formed new Gundams that each fit different mission profiles. Each Gundam’s name was a portmanteau of the name of a planet and its numerical order of orbit around the Sun. Hiroto could perform a core change where one armor set was swapped for another, or a limited change that combined elements of multiple armor sets. The parts were mounted on an aircraft that could also function as a remote attack unit or a sub-flight system. The Core Gundam’s armaments included beam vulcans, beam sabers, a core spray gun and a core shield. After wandering through different Dimensions in GBN, Hiroto and three other Divers were thrown together for a series of missions in a world with a non-Gundam setting. After learning the truth about these missions, Hiroto upgraded the Core Gundam into the enhanced PFF-X7II Core Gundam II. The original Core Gundam also inspired a similar unit piloted by the EL-Diver Rize, the PFF-X7R Core Gundam [Rize].
