Quon dreams about how time has a constant flow and that where it’s headed isn’t written anywhere. She takes out her violin and says that she’ll write it by collecting fragments of words, books, places, memories and time. She wonders what’s in there and if she’ll be able to see or hear it. She says that she’ll keep playing even if the text is meaningless or if it’s ruled by nothingness. She is about to play when another Quon says it’s a shattered memory that she has to build up herself. Quon asks who she is and ‘Quon’ says she’s an excerpt, a fragment of Quon. She says that they will open the door to the origin of collected tales. Quon says she won’t open it because she is herself but ‘Quon’ says she’s herself too and that Quon will understand when she knocks on the door. ‘Quon’ says that together they realize their true selves like music notes and letters. Quon stands on a small pillar and is told that it represents her present self. ‘Quon’ stands on thin air and says that that’s her current self. She says that the place Quon thinks of is not the current world but a place above eternity and that they should become one. Quon falls off the pillar and is suddenly in a bookstore looking at a blank book. She is told that it is her book and what’s reflected in her heart. ‘Quon’ says it’s empty because she locked it in her heart. Quon says if she saw it she wouldn’t believe it but ‘Quon’ says she’s lying. She says even if her words are meaningless, as soon as they reach another person, they become text. Quon says she doesn’t believe in text and ‘Quon’ replies that if she did, she’d have to face reality. Outside, Quon says the writing of letters is to establish memories and ‘Quon’ says once it’s written down, the action cannot be taken back and looses its meaning. ‘Quon’ says letters have no meaning by themselves, and that they are the same. They are two halves of one entity and don’t have a body in their current state. ‘Quon’ says to throw away the meaningless text to see the true nature of things and kisses her. Quon appears in front of a piano and repeats how text is meaningless and that the only determined thing is its flow. ‘Quon’ says a meaning is only born when it reaches one’s consciousness and that Quon hides her consciousness by hiding from reality. Quon says she says what she feels and thinks and ‘Quon’ says that’s what bias is and it twists reality. ‘Quon’ says Quon hides her true feelings, which is the desire to be connected with Ollin. Quon falls over and ‘Quon’ says she uses words to form a shell and blurs subject outlines to deny them, but that it’s not detestable. She says that they, who are separated, acknowledge each other by denying each other. She says it’s time for them to become one and Quon is once again on the pillar. They decide to become one and Quon steps off. As she falls into darkness, she hears voices call her name and she sees and image of herself holding two babies. Quon is back at the pillar and the world shatters around her. ‘Quon’ asks why she rejected her but Quon says she accepts her. She says she will accept her true self and thanks ‘Quon’, opening her arms. She hugs her and ‘Quon’ liquefies. Quon wakes up in her bed with Itsuki by her side. He tells her she collapsed and Haruka and Ayato found her. He says they’ll have to run the tests to find out why she collapsed and that she should rest. Quon says she has to thank the two of them and thanks Itsuki as well. Itsuki says good night and addresses Quon as mother.
This short OVA gives us an inner perspective on Quon’s thoughts, but it doesn’t really make much sense. As one would expect from Quon I suppose. You’d have to have an IQ of 170 and pay really close attention to truly understand the deepness and complexity of this OVA. For those who don’t fit the above criteria, you won’t be completely lost and will be able to get something out of it. It doesn’t have much an impact on the main story, and chronologically can fit somewhere into the middle of the series, but you get the most out of it if you watch it after the series. The selling point of this OVA is probably how much air time not one, but two Quons get, not to mention their kiss. For an extra on a video game, it’s an interesting little piece, but needed to be dumbed down a few shades.
