Rayearth Ep. 43: The Crown Room and the Pillar’s Memory

0
Summary

Clef senses Eagle’s escape. Alcyone wakes up in a room and Lantis visits her. She finally realizes he’s not Zagato and he explains that Zagato was his brother. He asks where Debonair is but Alcyone experiences pain when she tries to talk. Zazu directs the NSX‘s repairs and tells Geo they’ll be able to move in three hours. Eagle seeks out Lantis to get his sword so he can enter the room with the crown. Hikaru again remembers Nova asking her why she fell in love with Lantis, but she’s interrupted by numerous explosions. Clef tells the Knights that Eagle is running free and they head off. Eagle finds Lantis and attacks him before running off. Explosions occur all over the castle, making it hard for the Knights to track Eagle so they decide to split up. Lantis chases after Eagle and Eagle warns about not fighting against him seriously. Lantis attacks him with his Lightning Call spell.

Eagle tries to take Lantis’s sword when Hikaru finds them. The sword glows and transports the three of them in front of the crown’s room. The door opens and they see the crown has changed shape. Eagle makes a break for it and Lantis finds himself unable to move. Hikaru tries to stop Eagle and they both enter the room. The water attacks them and they see a vision of when Emeraude became the Pillar and her first meeting with Zagato. When Lantis had disappeared Zagato asked if he should go after him, but Emeraude told him to leave Lantis be. When Emeraude decided to summon the Magic Knights Clef objected. He said he knew about her and Zagato and that no one would blame her for wanting her own happiness. She said she’d never be able to forgive herself and asks Clef to guide the Knights. When the Knights struck her down, Emeraude was happy to finally be Zagato’s alone. Emeraude’s voice tells Hikaru and Eagle that Cephiro is a land for everyone that lives there and that the one who determines its fate is them. They both emerge from the room and Lantis wonders which one of them will become the Pillar.

Commentary

So the Pillar candidates have finally been decided and it’s Hikaru and Eagle as expected. We get a peek into Emeraude’s past and it once again reminds us that being the Pillar sucks. It dumps the livelihood of an entire world onto the shoulders of one person and deprives them of personal happiness. Eagle says he’s willing to accept that, but Hikaru knows first hand the tragedy it caused. Eagle just might have the advantage over Hikaru in this race. On another note, it was kind of odd seeing Alcyone be all vulnerable like that. She’s been nothing more than Debonair’s puppet this season and, surprisingly, I actually felt sorry for her.
