The result of an unauthorized modification, the B Gundam was in fact little more than a standard RB-79 Ball mounting a large faceplate inspired by Amuro Ray’s RX-78-2 Gundam. The modification was performed on a whim by its pilot, the young and enthusiastic Umon Samon. However, Umon gave absolutely no thought to anything but aesthetics; the faceplate was nothing more than dead weight and interfered with the view through the Ball’s main window, resulting in a machine with even poorer performance than the already infamous “flying coffin.” Despite these handicaps, Umon managed to shoot down six MS-09R Rick Doms during the Battle of Solomon, which marked the beginning of his six decade-long career as a mobile suit pilot.
