The RGM-79FP GM Striker was an armored close combat mobile suit based on the RGM-79C GM Type C. The GM Striker’s torso, arms and legs were equipped with wearable armor. To protect the suit while approaching an enemy, the armor absorbed the shock from an attack and directed it outward through the explosives that line its interior. To compensate for the added weight, the backpack and legs were fitted with more powerful thrusters. The GM Striker’s standard armaments included a machine gun, vulcan gun, a beam saber and a twin beam spear. The spear featured two beam sabers mounted on a movable rod, which gave the pilot the option of using short or long reach modes. The spear had the effect of canceling out the close combat advantage of Zeon mobile suits. The GM Striker could also carry a spike shield that mounted pile bunkers, or a grab shield that features a large claw. The GM Striker was deployed during the Earth Federation Forces’ attack to reclaim the California Base. One unit was notably used by Yuji Alkana of the Nemesis team. The GM Striker was further developed with the later RGM-79FC Striker Custom in UC 0084, and the RGM-79FP GM Striker Kai fielded by the True Federal organization.
