The Earth Federation Forces rolled out the RGM-79V Night Seeker for nighttime operations by special forces teams. The RGM-79LV GM Night Seeker II was created in response to the demand from pilots for an assault version of the high mobility RGM-79L GM Light Armor. However, the added weight from the landing thrusters and head sensors decreased the mobility of the Light Armor. In response, the thruster units were modified to allow them to be detached mid-operation via explosive bolts. This feature was later backported to the original Night Seeker. An initial production run of 12 units were completed near the end of UC 0079. A second production run after the end of the One Year War brought the Night Seeker II’s total up to 38 units.
