The RGM-79U GM Sloep was one of several quickly devised amphibious mobile suit designs created by the Earth Federation Forces. A standard RGM-79 GM served as the base for the Sloep, modified with some waterproofing and the addition of hydrojet engines and ballast tanks. Because the GM lacked built-in underwater sensors, it was equipped with a periscope-style sensor pod and a hand sonar gun. The GM Sloep rolled out in November UC 0079, and two units were reserved for data collection to develop new mobile suits. Ultimately, the EFF decided on the RAG-79 Aqua GM as its main amphibious mobile suit. After the One Year War, most Sloep units were converted back to regular GMs.
