A part of the fourth generation of Knightmare Frames, the RMI-13 Portman was the first amphibious Knightmare to be produced. Based on data from the RPI-11 Glasgow, much of its outward design was made with hydrodynamics first in mind. In addition to the standard slash harkens, the Portman also mounted a set of torpedo launchers in its shoulders, primarily useable while cruising through water. Though intended to operate primarily underwater, the Portman could also be used on land, though its speed and combat skills were poor in this area. During the battle on Shikinejima Island, Princess Euphemia Li Britannia commandeered a Portman in a failed attempt to warn Suzaku Kururugi of an incoming Britannian bombardment, aimed at wiping out the Order of the Black Knights. Despite being an experimental model, the Portman was fielded during Britannia’s war with Europia United, and its success inspired them to produce an upgraded model, the RMI-U14 Portman II.
