The RX-80BR Black Rider was one of three prototype mobile suits from the Pale Rider Project, which also included the RX-80RR Red Rider and RX-80WR White Rider. The Black Rider was equipped with THEMIS, a prototype version of HADES (Hyper Animosity Detect Estimate System) later installed in the RX-80PR-2 Pale Rider Cavalry. The Black Rider mounted a large sensor unit on its head, and its back was equipped with the prototype tactical unit steelyard for advanced electronic warfare. The Black Rider also featured an experimental optical camouflage system that rendered it completely invisible. The Black Rider’s armaments included a rail cannon, stun anchor, grenade launcher and a pair of heat daggers. The Black Rider was fielded late in the One Year War in UC 0079 and often deployed with its partner unit, the White Rider. Both units were destroyed in combat at the war’s end.
