In early February C.E. 71, the civilian shuttle Silverwind was sent out to the Debris Belt to investigate the ruins of Junius Seven in preparation for a memorial marking the first anniversary of the Bloody Valentine tragedy. The leader of the delegation was Lacus Clyne, an idol singer and daughter of PLANT Supreme Council Chairman Siegel Clyne. While in the debris belt, the Silverwind came under attack from an Earth Alliance battleship. The attack was orchestrated by an informant named Kenaf Luchini as a trap to lure in MBF-P02 Gundam Astray Red Frame pilot Lowe Guele. The Alliance ship, acting on misinformation from Kenaf, believed that the Silverwind was a ZAFT military vessel disguised as a civilian ship. During the battle, Lowe spotted the damaged ship and protected it long enough to allow Lacus to launch in an escape pod. Later, Lacus’ escape pod was found by GAT-X105+AQM/E-X01 Aile Strike Gundam pilot Kira Yamato while he was out on a supply mission for the Alliance battleship Archangel.
