SRW OG: The Inspector Stage 23: The Heart of a Fallen Angel

Summary

At Mao Industries, Shu’s Granzon floats over the remains of multiple Rest Djemilas. Shu tells Ring that he’s disabled all of the Inspectors’ bioroids and to have the Federation retake all the Moon bases. He notes that it was too easy and wonders if the Inspectors’ goals have changed. On the Kurogane, Ratsel tells Sophia that Egret has disappeared and everyone else has surrendered. Sophia regrets the Earth Cradle being used as a base again and says she’ll start Project Ark over from the beginning. She thanks Sanger for saving her, but he says he didn’t do it alone. Kenneth orders the Hiryu Kai and Kurogane into space because the Einst are attacking Neviim. He wants them to find out why and gather information. Yuuki and Carla’s machines are equipped with Raven units and Marion shows Kyosuke the Alteisen Riese. The two battleships head into space as Arado, Seolla, and Latooni bid farewell to Ouka. The Einst continue their attack on Neviim and Mekibos notes it’s getting worse. Wendolo reminds him of their mission to inspect undeveloped worlds. He also brings up the team sent to the South Pole before the DC war that failed due to Shu’s interference. Wendolo adds that species that develop weapons beyond the rest of its culture don’t deserve consideration. Mekibos points out they took in Shadow Mirror to get System XN but Wendolo says their teleporter is better than theirs. He supposes they might not need it anymore, saying that destruction to bring about creation will begin. Gilliam tells the ATX team that he investigated Kyosuke and Excellen, wondering if they had contact with the Einst before. Lamia wonders if it was the shuttle accident, and explains that it happened in the Shadow Mirror universe as well. She says Excellen died in the crash and while Kyosuke was near death, he made an unexplained recovery. Bullet asks what they’re talking about and Gilliam explains a shuttle exploded, leaving only Kyosuke and Excellen alive. He reveals that something actually crashed into the shuttle and it was thought to be an Aerogator recon unit. Kyosuke and Excellen went to the hospital with minor injuries, but Kyosuke recalls seeing Excellen mortally wounded. Lamia wonders if the same thing that happened to the other side’s Kyosuke happened to Excellen. The alarm goes off and the Kurogane and Hiryu Kai are attacked by Einst. The PTs launch and engage them. Yuuki and Carla cover Arado and Seolla, Yuuki amused at how they’re giving him orders now. Koryuoh charges through and Alfimi appears before them. Bullet and Kusuha tell her that they’ll protect the world, but Alfimi says protecting the land of beginnings is meaningless.

Kyosuke feels Excellen nearby and the Rein Weissritter appears above the ships. Excellen fires, but Tasuku blocks the shot. She charges again, getting past Ibis and Leona. Kyosuke launches in the Alteisen Riese and Excellen attacks him. The Alteisen Riese’s beam coat negates the damage and Excellen flies away. Kyosuke goes after her and breaks through some Einst with his plasma horn. Aya tells Kyosuke that some psychic energy is influencing Excellen and Kyosuke asks if it’s Alfimi. Alfimi says he’s half right and that everything is to bring about a silent universe. Kyosuke says Excellen has nothing to do with their goals and that he’s taking her back. Excellen manages to regain some control and attacks Alfimi. Einst dog pile on Kyosuke and try to take him away but he blows them away with his claymores and revolving bunker. Alfimi regains control of Excellen and Mai says the jewel on the Rein Weissritter’s forehead is the source of the psychic energy. Alfimi tries to stop him, but a combination of Ryukooh’s magic, the R-3’s strike shields, and the Psychodrivers’ powers restrains the Personlichkeit. Kyosuke destroys the jewel and the two are enveloped by its energy. The Einst Regisseur speaks to Kyosuke and says a pure being can’t be born from chaos since they’re incomplete. It says the complete one lies in another land and Kyosuke sees Beowulf. Alfimi wonders if they’re unneeded before she disappears. Lamia wonders if the Einst caused the shuttle crash that made Beowulf change. Excellen wakes up and Kyosuke welcomes her back. He tells her to just stay as who she is.

Commentary

We leave the Earth Cradle behind to head back up into space. Luckily Shu has freed most of it by himself so the Kurogane and Hiryu Kai can head to Neviim. They encounter the Einst along the way and Kyosuke finally launches in the upgraded Alteisen Riese to take back Excellen. It’s really only times like this when Kyosuke visibly shows that he cares about Excellen. During his OG1 route Excellen is captured by Ingram and his anger was very apparent. It was also in that route that Ingram mentions that Excellen’s body is made up of 90 percent unknown material. The Einst revived her after the shuttle crash, which explains why they could control her so easily. Speaking of Einst control, it looks like Wendolo has been infected as well, which is a pretty extreme change from the game. I mentioned last episode that I barely noticed the dip in animation, but I can’t say the same here. This episode didn’t look good at all and the fight was pretty underwhelming. You’d think the Riese’s debut battle would warrant more of the budget. I did think that combined psychic field they trapped Alfimi in was pretty neat, though.
