The SVMS-01AS Union Flag Aerotype Sky Package was a variation of the SVMS-01 Union Flag designed for use in other countries. It was an armed recon unit that was mainly used for infiltrating and gathering intelligence in enemy-controlled territory. This also reflected Union’s habit of fighting in other nations. In flight mode, the Aero Flag mounted an aero cowl as the nose unit instead of the standard Flag’s linear rifle. Unlike the standard Flag that depended on the electromagnetic field from the linear rifle to control airflow and hence reduce air resistance while flying in flight mode, the Aero Flag adopted a more aerodynamic shape to control airflow. As a result, the suit’s shape was now closer to that of an aircraft, and had better flight capabilities in the atmosphere. Besides having improved mobility, it also had a longer cruising range and achieved high speed flying capabilities. The Aero Flag’s wings could use various equipment, including air-to-ground missiles or bombs. The aero cowl was equipped with various sensors and could separate from the suit in mid-air, whereby it could then function as a recon drone. However, it only had a short operation time, as it was only capable of gliding in the air. The aero cowl also could not be launched from the ground on its own.

In place of the usual hands was a pair of 60mm linear gauntlets; this new weapon served as a replacement for the removed linear rifle and was the Aero Flag’s main weapon. The loss of the hands made it closer to an aircraft than a mobile suit, but it could still change into a humanoid form, even if it couldn’t engage in melee combat. Thus, in terms of mobile suit performance, its versatility was greatly reduced. The most famous Aero Flags were the ones stationed in the Elmendorf Base in Alaska, which had a longer nose unit than the standard Aero Flags, as well as a grey color based camouflage pattern on their armor surface. The camouflage pattern was achieved through the use of nanomachines applied to the armor surface, hence it could change according to the operation area by controlling the nanomachines. The Aero Flag squad at Elmendorf was also known as the “North Shield” for their defensive function, but also the “North Spear” offensively. This squad was involved in several missions outside the U.S., and one of its most famous pilots was Joshua Edwards.
