A mummified MegaDeus stands atop a large structure, looking over the wasteland outside of Paradigm City. Dastun leads the Military Police, who are watching nearby. Suddenly, an eruption occurs from the ground as Big O appears. Roger flashes back to a meeting with Alex Rosewater, who asks him to handle the negotiation of severance pay with former employee Michael Seebach (Schwarzwald). Roger says that his report on Seebach’s death must have been incorrect. Alex says Roger won’t be able to refuse and will be very well compensated. Alex writes a check which Angel hands to Roger. Roger realizes that the check must be the severance pay due to its extremely large amount. Roger thinks the severance is too high but Alex refuses to justify his reasons. Roger drives off in his car and spots several military police tanks passing by him. He taps into the Military Police radio and eavesdrops on Dastun talking about a MegaDeus that has been spotted. Roger heads to where they are going in the Big O. Back in the present, Schwarzwald tells Roger that he’s glad to see him and that he’s a lap dog of this corrupt city. Roger says that he is only doing his job and that it’s nothing personal. Schwarzwald’s MegaDeus jumps towards Big O and Roger gets back into Big O’s cockpit. The two MegaDeuses grab onto each other. Big O overpowers the MegaDeus, but is knocked back by its eye lasers. Big O attacks with its eye lasers as well and the lasers blast into each other. The MegaDeus tosses its bandages around Big O and is able to drag Big O towards it as a result. It reveals a fan-like razor on its hand. Roger unleashes cannons on Big O’s chest which it blasts into the MegaDeus, setting it ablaze. As the smoke clears Roger spots the MegaDeus, now without its bandages. Schwarzwald laughs as the MegaDeus’ true form, which appears like a red colored, more powerful version of Big O, is revealed. Schwarzwald says he’s saving the ultimate attack for the main stage and releases black smoke which enables the MegaDeus to escape. Dastun and the Military Police wonder what happened to the red MegaDeus. Later, Dorothy comes to see Roger, who is laying on the balcony, telling him that he has a telephone call. Roger asks Dorothy if it can fly, but doesn’t say what he’s talking about. Angel, who is smoking, is the one on the phone. She tells Roger she knows of Schwarzwald’s whereabouts. Roger is surprised that she knows about Schwarzwald Roger heads to a tall building in one of the domes and heads up in the elevator. He thinks about Angel while he heads up, wondering how she knows the name Schwarzwald.
Roger arrives at his destination, a masquerade ball. As he heads inside he finds everyone wearing black and white masks and is provided one by the host. Roger sees the guests of the party drinking and partying excessively, including a drunken woman dancing on a table. Schwarzwald, wearing a mask and a jester’s costume, climbs down a vine and calls Roger a Paradigm dog. Roger asks if this is a victory party and says it is a bit premature. Schwarzwald says that is not the case at all but that he wanted him to see the behavior of the guests. He tells Roger he is seeing the reality of the corrupt city he is trying to protect. Roger says there’s been a misunderstanding and that he’s come here as a negotiator. He hands Schwarzwald his severance check, which Schwarzwald promptly burns. Schwarzwald says that it is this corrupt city that will burn. He says the domes are ineffectual and useless and that everyone must become aware and experience what happened 40 years ago, which he’ll accomplish through his MegaDeus, Big Duo. Suddenly the masks that the guests are wearing burst aflame. The guests shriek in horror and many jump out of the window. Schwarzwald jumps out himself and calls for Big Duo. At Roger’s mansion Dorothy looks into the sky and sees Big Duo flying by. Big Duo bursts through the roof of the dome and heads down where Schwarzwald had jumped. Schwarzwald stands atop Big Duo’s head as it ascends to the air, right past Roger. Roger calls for Big O, which bursts through the building below him. Schwarzwald says that he’ll show him the power of Big Duo and that one of the Bigs will have to go. Norman tells Roger just as he is getting into Big O that the ammunition from the last fight has not been replaced and that Big O is unarmed as a result. Big Duo shoots missiles at Big O, which Big O blocks with its arms. Dastun leads the military police towards the battle, trying to stop them from fighting inside the dome. Big Duo jumps at Big O and knocks it off the building to the ground. Big Duo grabs Big O’s head tightly, causing it to crack. Roger tries to attack with its punches, but Big Duo avoids them and the punches hit nearby buildings instead. Big O shoots at Big Duo with its chains but Big Duo shoots them off with its eye lasers. Schwarzwald says it is time to finish this and aims at Big O with two large missiles contained in Big Duo’s legs. Roger spots a hole in the roof of the dome and fires towards it. The missiles strike, causing a large explosion that knocks over all of the nearby military police tanks. Dastun gets out of one of the tanks and looks at the large crater in front of them where Big O was standing. Big Duo descends from the sky and lands on the ground nearby. Schwarzwald laughs about Big O being blown away, not leaving a speck of degree. Suddenly glass falls on him from the sky, revealing that Big O saved itself by grabbing onto the broken glass roof at the top of the dome. Big O releases itself from the top of the dome and lands on Big Duo, knocking it into the crater. As the two MegaDeuses fall down the slope of the crater Big O punches Big Duo over and over, knocking its arm off. As they hit the bottom of the crater Big O uses its punch to completely destroy Big Duo’s head. Big O then pulls off the chest armor from Big Duo, trying to get at Schwarzwald Suddenly, Big Duo starts operating on its own. Roger backs off, wondering what is happening. Schwarzwald falls out of the remains of Big Duo’s cockpit and watches from the ground below as Big Duo climbs up the slope of the crater. Schwarzwald claims “it’s happening again.” Big Duo reaches the top of the crater. Schwarzwald asks Roger whether the MegaDeuses choose their own master and control their pilots, rather than it being the other way around. Big Duo stops its ascent and collapses, with its hand grasping towards a building that Dorothy stands on top of. Dorothy heads to a locker room where she finds Angel’s put out cigarette.
This is a fairly strong episode, one of the first season’s best. Schwarzwald returns for the second time, piloting the strongest MegaDeus yet. Big Duo bears quite the resemblance to Big O, making one wonder if they are connected, such as by having the same maker. Seeing Schwarzwald shout out Roger’s catch phrase “It’s showtime!” while piloting Big Duo was a fun sight to see. In the end Schwarzwald is no match for Roger, who defeats Schwarzwald despite having the weaker MegaDeus and no ammunition. The episode is probably the most battle-heavy of the first season, and hence isn’t as strong characterization-wise, but the interesting character of Schwarzwald and the reveal of Big Duo makes up for it. A notable animation blooper occurs a couple of times in the episode when the large severance check written out for Michael Seebach is shown with a numerical amount of only $30.85 (although it is written for a far greater amount).
