∀ Gundam Ep. 12: Underground Passageways

0
Summary

As the Wodoms continue to fire at the mountain, the Turn A falls inside. Loran looks to see if Dianna is all right and injures himself. Dianna rips off part of her skirt to use as a bandage for Loran’s hand. When the cavern they are in shakes, Loran grabs Dianna and then accidentally hits the Turn A after pushing away from her in embarrassment. Loran explores the area and finds Sid and his men digging. He tells Sid to leave because it’s dangerous, but Sid says he is busy looking for more mobile suits. On the surface, Phil’s men continue to search for the Turn A. He tells Corin to go look for the Turn A but says he won’t be giving him any support. Yanny lands after patrolling the area in a Bull One and reports to Michael that Dianna Counter has control of the mountain now. Joseph runs out of a tent and says he heard on the radio that Guin is abandoning Nocis. Michael decides that with Guin out of the picture they should contact the Militia from the Luziana fiefdom and team up with them to fight the Moonrace. As Michael gives out orders, Sochie wonders where Loran is. At the Nocis airport a car pulls up, and Guin meets with the passenger, Lily Borjarno, the daughter of Luziana’s ruling Borjarno family. Guin tells her that since negotiations are going to continue in Luziana now he won’t be present for them and needs information. Lily gets excited and volunteers to be Guin’s spy at the negotiations. Loran carries Dianna through the cave and bonks the Turn A’s head on a rock. The suit falls on the ground, and he looks quickly and sees that Dianna is all right. Dianna spots an exit nearby, and Loran leaves her behind to investigate. He climbs up the hole and sees the Eagail and the Gozzos patrolling the area. Corin has Bruno and Jacop fire their railguns at a hill and decides to investigate further. Sid investigates the caves and finds that the geological conditions are the same as the other mountain cycle where they found mobile suits. Bruno and Jacop enter a hole and fire their railguns into the cave. Loran hears the weapons fire and realizes it is close to Dianna. Sid hears the weapons fire as well and knows it is from nearby.

Outside, Bruno and Jacop wonder if they should abandon Corin. Loran sneaks up behind them and hits them with a tree. They fall out of their Gozzos, and the Gozzos fall into the cave. Loran goes inside to get Dianna, and she says maybe she should speak to Corin since she looks like Dianna. Sid and his men discover a missile, and they run away just as it explodes. On the surface, the ground caves in and Corin’s Eagail falls into the cave where Sid is. Sid and his men run away again and encounter Loran. Loran tells them there are other mobile suits in the area and asks them to take Dianna with them. Loran grabs a piece of rock to confront the Eagail, and Sid notices that the Turn A’s legs are damaged. As they escape, Dianna grabs a rifle and decides to go back and help Loran. Corin spots Loran and begins attacking. He swipes at the Turn A with his Minchi drill and extends the head out to hit the Turn A. He knocks the Turn A against a rock formation, and Loran pulls out his beam saber. Corin dodges Loran’s attacks and knocks the Turn A into a hole. The Turn A loses power, and when Loran restores it he sees that he is being dragged by the Eagail’s tail. Corin drags the Turn A to a cliff overlooking a sea of lava. He says that the Gundam owns his memory and that he will destroy it. Dianna shows up and tells Corin that his job is over. She says he can go home now, but that if he refuses she will kill him. Corin becomes frustrated and tells Dianna he’s been fighting for her. Dianna repeats again that his job is over, but Corin jumps onto the Turn A with the Eagail and tries to make it lose its grip and fall in the lava. Dianna starts shooting at Corin, and Loran gets the Turn A to move and make the Eagail fall. Corin falls out of the Eagail, and the Eagail lands in the lava and melts. Loran activates the Turn A’s thrusters and escapes the lava. Later, he commends Dianna for what she did and asks how she knew about Corin. As part of her cover as Kihel, she tells Loran that Dianna told her Corin was a weird soldier. Worn out, Loran fall asleep on Dianna’s lap.

Commentary

Most of this episode focuses on Loran and Dianna underground, but there’s some developments on the surface as well. With his city destroyed, Guin surrenders Nocis. However, it seems from his meeting with Lily Borjarno that he wants to stay in the game. Corin seems to be even crazier this episode, and one has to wonder why he hates Gundams so much. Perhaps a bad experience in the past before he was put in stasis? The Turn A takes quite a beating here, but at least it doesn’t fall into lava like the Eagail does. I’m starting to see a growing attraction between Loran and Dianna, and he will probably be very surprised when he realizes she isn’t Kihel.
